THIS IS THE EXACT SAME SCENARIO AS LIBBY MT.!!!
WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE!!!

There is an open pit Asbestos Mine/Mill right on a trail in the middle of Gallatin Forest MT. just 6 miles south of the City of Bozeman. Right in Gallatin Gateway!!!
It is not only listed as a Superfund site, but is also listed as an NPL site(National Priority List). Yet for over 10 years the Forest Service has refused to clean it!

There is more to this issue than just the mine.
You may have been thinking this was a standard mine, basically a hole in the rock with the asbestos inside the mine. This is an open pit mine (like a gravel pit) and there was a processing Mill and loading dock lower down near the river. They use Ore Buckets to move the Asbestos from the mine (4000 ft elev.) to the mill and docks. These Ore buckets traveled about 1 mile over the forest shaking back and forth dumping asbestos all over the forest floor. In some areas as much as 3 feet thick! This mine is at a 4000 ft elevation and just a few miles of the cities of Bozeman, Big Sky and Gallatin Gateway. At this close range and from that elevation, this "Fluff Asbestos" from this mine is infiltrating the air of these cities, Yet not even not even ONE air sample has been taken, and for over 10 years the Forest Servcies has refuse to clean this up.
That along with the dirt roads, the open pit, the asbestos dump at the docks, and the mill itself, is why this Superfund site has been elevated to NPL. A much smaller operation in California has caused a permanent closure of 150+ square miles around the mine. No one dares enter that area. You can see it on a California map just above San Francisco.
Now the Asbestos from this mine had been shipped to Bozeman, Gallatin Gateway, Livingston, Helena, and to Missoula. The EPA issued an emergency order to wash and seal these sites. Within a day all these site were hosed and sealed to protect the public until permanent clean up could begin. That was around 1994. Since then every single one of those sites has been cleaned and a “No Further Action” notice was issued by the EPA.
However, the mother lode and source of these site (Karst Mine itself) was located on Federal land so the State of Montana had no jurisdiction on this mine and it was referred to “another program” meaning it was referred to the Forest Service to clean up immediately. These orders are being ignored for over 10 years, when the state of Montana had to act in 1 day for immediately clean up and has since cleaned up their Superfund sites resulting from this mine.(i.e The Bozeman Library)
When you look up Superfund sites in Montana it will give you all the sites that were affected by the mine. They have been all clean up years ago. Except to the source itself, The Karst Mine itself!

Marybeth Marks,The person in charge of the cleanup, stated she had "NO PLANS" to clean it up. I will also post my email reply to her.

Hi Marybeth,

Thank you for talking with me this afternoon. I'm glad I found the person in charge of this Asbestos Mine.

After I got off the phone with you I realized something that is inconsistent. You said there is no dangers with the mine and you do not plan to clean it up.

However; this site is listed, not just as a Superfund Site, but as an NPL(National Priority Lisiting) site to be cleaned up immediately. That is the highest level of toxic contamination issued by the EPA. There a many Superfund Sites, but only a few reach the level of NPL.

Here's the listing...
BOZEMAN ASBESTOS MINE (KARST) KARST KAMP DISTRICT MTD980717474

This also means that federal funds have been allocated for the cleanup of this mine, especially since it is NPL.

So why is it not being cleaned up and just why would a mine that is "not dangerous" be listed as a Superfund Site and at NPL level. This puts it on par with the Hanford Nuclear waste site, Libby, Butte Pit, Three Mile Island etc.

It doesn't seem like the EPA is in agreement with your assessment at all.

Thanks
James

There is no problem if it is not being stirred up and made airborne. 90% of the abestos "problem" has been made by the companies making the $$$ to clean it up. Whatever California does is most likely irrational, expensive and beneficial to foreigners or illegals.

Of Course Frank!
Then maybe you can explain Libby Mt.
Our nation worst environmantal disaster. 3000 people dead from an Asbestos mine that was more than 10 miles away. This one in Bozeman is less than 6 miles and it is an open pit mine.

The problem is Montanian are under educated and ignorant. All montanians care about is drinkling and hunting. They are like caveman and hve no knowledge of anything else. I guess in your case ignorance is bliss (or deadly)

My God,never seeks to amaze me how something so deadly as asbestos is not a issue except to those who are being exposed and will suffer and die as most in Libby Mt.EPA does not care about the health and safety of people.Instead they are all about,How can we downplay the exposure and then How much money can be made.9 years in Libby Mt at a cost of over $180 million spent/wasted and that town,Libby, is no safer than the day WR Grace came to town in 1963.And yet, since 1999,the murderous EPA and others have/are selling Libby as a safe place to live and raise a family. This is a deadly lie.So why do you think EPA cares about you or contaminated sites where money to be made, is the issue and killing people from known deadly exposure continues from the lies that are being told.Stay away from Libby Mt is the best advice to tell people to save them from the same suffering and death I and most of the town of Libby live with today and for generations to follow.Read Libby Mike Crill as to my involvement to tell the truth and stop the killings.PS when the wind blows the asbestos fiber is disturbed and does travel up to 20 miles each time it is disturbed to continue it's deadly exposure.Dr.Irving Selikoff of Mt Sinai states"A single fiber in a persons lungs leads to cancer"We the people have to educate ourselve if we are to save those we leave behind, our children. This Government could care less about you and I.They too are guilty of knowingly exposing people to something that kills you.Tremolite asbestos kills you.So why would EPA or anyone, publicly state Libby is safe.Sounds like pre murder to me,knowingly!!!!Also, "Children living in a asbestos contaminated environment are more a priority to protect because they are more at risk of Mesotheeleoma".It is what we know today that we didn't know yesterday is why we have to protect those we leave behind, our kids. What else matters!!!!!

Daily Horoscope for December 17

Aquarius

Yesterday you had a good control over the workings of your mind, but sadly that isn't the case today. Instead, your thoughts are wandering in every direction except the one you need to concentrate on. The result will be a sense of being disconnected from what's going on around you and possibly even a dreamlike quality to the day. Don't make any decisions while you're like this.
