This program is going too have a hard time findiing success. Let me give you some reasons.
1. MoJo vball : thiss is a travel team, and cost a lot of money. Only families who can afford this get the exp for their child. Leaving other players who r deserving left out. After all what parent would not be upset if they spent all that money, and a girl who did not do mojo, gets to start because they are better, well not at galion, and its all grade lvls.
2. Coaching: starting at the lower grades, basics and fundamentals are key, but mental developement is absent. These kids are so afraid of making mistakes and getting yelled at for it, they play with fear, or being scared. The program is driven that's for sure, but coaching young players
to win, and shake off mistakes is not present. They destroy confidence.

3. Team concept: the kids are so mean to each other, and threatend by another person being better than them. They are not taught team concept. They woould rather talk about players making mistakes, and laughing at them, instead of encouraging their team mates. Again this goes back to coaching.

This program has lost many talented and athletic players due to its current regime of coaches. Some of galions best female atheletes are not playing. This is sad because it could be one of the top programs in the state. Maybe somday notice will be taken, and corrective action taken to develope this program to an outstanding lvl.

Just getting up and checking news, and seen this topic. I am a parent of a senoir daughter whoo loves vollyball, but because of so many issues like mentioned above, and the time it takes up throughout the year, she decided not to play. This program has taken away the other successes in girls sports at galion. My daughter plays basketball, and a very good varsity coach has been employed. She is tough, and disciplined, but she builds her players up. This program is going to be somthing to watch over the next few years.
The vollyball program is a program that has no mental developement to winning, just like the topic starter said. The basketball coach is taking this to heart and developing winners, wish we could see the same transition in vollyball.

Wow ! This is so spot on. I heard some of the girls are doing warm up exercises on the hard gym floor, that their backs are bruised. One girl tried to relieve her pain by putting her arm under her back while doing the excersise, and got yelled at, then made to run for not doing it right. Sounds like its a rule by the whip thing. Cmon at least the coach could have asked her if she was ok, or if she knew how too do the excersise. I know because my daughter is on the team, and she is wanting to quit. Now I have to really think about removing her from the team.

I am totaly upset as many of you seem. I have a player, who was so upset, and stressed over being on the jr high team. They allowed two 8th graders to be put on the 7th grade team, becauuse they were noot good enough to make the cut as 8th graders. This has created disention among the team, and put an extra stress on all of the players. It is legal according to the ohio rules, but this is an added pressure for girls playing on this team. Most of the girls wanted to build a team of peers, now they have to deal with players older than them, who have no business even playing. This whole thing has gotten to a point of not thinking about what certain actions do to a team. The 7th grade coach is way out of control. There are other concerns about this coach too.

I thought I was the only one who had an issue. The program seems to be full of chaos. That jr high coach should be removed for their unorthodox approach to coaching, since when do you allow yourself to superseed your team and its self worth. I don't care if its legal or not to put 8th graders on a 7th grade team, that's an automatic for creating issues with your team.
I would like to know what the other issues are with ths coach, if its leading girls too quit the team ?
