I'm wondering if there is anyone here in the community that could assist me in helping these teen's stay busy? I've seen many teens walking around with no sense of direction. From my own experience as a teen I know that there are other thing's to do (since there isn't a place for them to occupy their minds and time here in Three Oaks).
For instance, I'm sure there are some elderly people who are unable to rake or mow their yard's. Trimming hedges or washing window's too. Not to mention being on a limited income they can't afford to pay for it either. We could offer our services on a donation basis. I'm willing to supervise the teens and ask local businesses to help in our effort. I know some teens who are capable of helping out too. I'm sure they would get a sense of graditude and pride, just knowing that they would be helping the elderly. I've heard adult's say that our teen's are only out to cause trouble, hanging around on Elm St. and with the Summer Break ahead teen's will only be outside walking around more and more. They don't like to be kept at home, so they walk..... With posting this I'm hoping to help both the Elderly and Teen's. I'll be checking in everyday on this post and hope that someone out there feels the same way as I do. We can't change or better the teen situation if we only talk about it and stand by doing nothing to help. All replies will be greatly appreciated. Sincerly Tammy Hellenga/Three Oaks, MI |

Okay, it's been 3 day's and not one reply to my post. I'll have to work on this subject myself. I'm going to our local businesses in search of a sponsor.
I've spoke to some our local teens and they agree with my idea and are willing to help the elderly people of Three Oaks. Encouragement goes a long ways when you get right down to it! That's pretty much all it takes when you ask Three Oaks Teens for their help. I let them know that someone here in our town could really use their help. Let's call it "Paying It Forward". |

Kali, sorry have been away for quite sometime and was unable to follow through w/my post to the above comment. There's still time for some yard work for the elderly here and around the Three Oaks area. You may know of some elderly ppl in your area as well. Please reply and I'll promptly respond. Thanks so much for offering your help! Tammy |
