The relatives of a Maryland man held for four months in the disappearance and presumed death of his traveling companion in Aruba in 2011 say he is refusing to give back their mother’s personal belongings after her death.
The mother, Diana Sandahl, lived in Cape Coral with her husband, Frank Giordano, until her death in November. Giordano died about a month before his wife.
Gary Giordano, Frank Giordano’s son, was detained but never charged by Aruban police after the disappearance of Robyn Gardner. Paula Rockwell and her brother, Bill Egbert Jr., say Giordano won’t relinquish their mother’s furniture and personal effects, such as clothing, from the northwest Cape home. They say Giordano also refuses to tell them where his father will be buried so they can fulfill the couple’s wish to be buried next to one another.
“It would be a sad thing to know that, you know, you couldn’t get that accomplished,” Egbert said.“It kind of feels like the whole story is unwritten.”
He said lawyers have declined to accept the case because of the small size of their mother’s estate.
Giordano declined to comment, as did his lawyer.
