Ride On and Metro Bus -- the Ghetto Limo. I won't take public transportation anymore because of the behavior of other riders. And that includes the Metro -- DC does not make any money off me because of that. They will not deal with the thugs on the buses and Metro and yet they want more people to take public transportation to ease traffic problems and pollution.

I agree with you JAM. I am SO done dealing with "thug" behavior. I refuse to shop in or visit areas where these types of people - OF ANY COLOR - go. I don't want to support any area or institution or business that is going to subject me to these types of people, I don't care what color they are or their background or what. F them. My family and I stick to safe places now and I have NO problem telling people in charge of something like the Metro or a mall or something that I don't partake of their services and why.

Any mall in the DC area is thug city with the exeption of Tysons II. Even Montgomery Mall is getting bad.
Lakeforest needs the freakin' National Gaurd or something to step in and stomp down all the trash and thuggery that hangs out there.

according to this

http://www.gangs.umd.edu/reference/Montgomery...

there are a few gangs right near L.F. I've seen thugs harassing the Chinese ladies at one of the wok places in the food court. Real bad. Yelling at them, calling them "bitch", etc.

I don't go there anymore. I don't need to put up with that sh!t. I go to Frederick (at least for now!) and on line when I need something.

I go to Frederick as well as Hagerstown and sometimes even PA to do my mall shopping. They are losing my money because they tolerate this garbage.

I agree with you JAM - I don't use any DC transportation because of the behavior I've experienced on them. METRO does NOTHING in my opinion to protect the rider's - but they want to raise fares every other year.

As for shopping opportunities - I don't come into DC after dark. And I don't shop in PG County after dark either. It's not safe and I shouldn't have to look over my shoulder every 30 seconds. I've found better shopping opportunities in VA and Anne Arundel County.

I hate to say this because I feel like a wuss living in or near cities all my life, but when I go downtown DC late at night I'm thinking of driving in and parking near the venue instead of taking the train. I mean if I'm alone. I am afraid of getting jumped at 1am at a Metro station and it doesn't matter how big or whatever you are, these savages have weapons and do it in packs. I already won't ride the Metro buses because I don't want to put up with the trash that ride them, now I'm thinking of boycotting the Metro rail too unless I'm with a few people.

As I said in an earlier post I have no problem telling the people in charge why this is. They have a responsibility to keep their services or places of business safe for regular people

It is a shame you have to be fearful of going to the mall. I don't understand why the malls are not cracking down on this behavior -- they must know they are losing business. Where do you shop in Anne Arundel? I would consider going over there but I am not familar with the area.

Fair Oaks and Dulles Town Center are great malls to shop at.

I am from DC. Born and raised. I am Black too. It's not a race issue, it's a class issue. Period. I went to a prominent private school in DC and even then the white kids were rowdy (all though admittedly not like this crap now). But again its a class issue. Either you have it or you don't. I have seen more transit police on the trains recently, but the bus....forget about it. Last time I rode it the kids were wrestling on the floor knocking into people etc. What trash. The bottom line if you cant behave yourself in public, you should lose your right to be in public. I don't know what the problem is....that is a very simple concept. If more people enforced it and stopped trying to make excuses for poor behavior, the world would be a better place. Period.

You sound entirely too intelligent to fall into the bigot traps... Don't try to explain this to them. They'll never admit it. I guarantee you that 75% of the Black people they've come into personal contact with have at least been cordial, polite and civil. They don't want to be wrong, so they ignore us civil negroes and focus on the Knuckleheaded 25%. Talking to these bigots will leave you drained of your will to live.

Agree Lydia. I said in my earlier post "these types of people - OF ANY COLOR" A thug can be any race, just depends where you are what the dominant color of them is I guess. It's partly a class issue but I also think there's something terribly wrong with society in general nowadays too. My Mom was raised in Chicago in a shtty neighborhood with pretty poor people but she said they pretty much used to keep their little places clean, respect their neighbors, respect authority, respect their elders. Nowadays everybody thinks they are owed something and nobody respects anything. The poorer people are just more likely to act out on it, if that makes sense. There are no moral absolutes nowadays, nobody is accountable for anything. I really do think we are regressing big time. The New Dark Ages, if you will :)

Well I dont' really post here so I don't know if the typical poster is racist or not. But if they are shame on them. Only an ignorant person would lump all illegal activity into one race. I stand by my statement, of it being a class issue. I've dealt with stupid black people who talk to loud and try to take over the train. At the same time however, I have dealt with the no less irritating, stupid white people on the subway who walk into you like it's the 50's and I am still supposed to move out of their way. For some reason they think if they look right at you and see you move a little to accomodate them they can look the other way and pretend they didn't see you so you move or have to stop and let them pass. By the way, I don't do either. Then again, I have sat by both blacks and whites who have been cordial and never caused a second thought.
It's not racial. Stupid people are global. Only a stupid person would say it's only blacks that are disrespectful. WE ALL KNOW THAT's NOT TRUE.

Scoff, I agree with you. I get in trouble with some people because I believe in holding people accountable for their actions -- no excuses including the ever popular "you brought us over here as slaves so it is all your fault". I agree that the behavior of all people in this country has gone downhill. Part of the problem is poor to no parenting. Maybe parents should be held accountable for the actions of their offspring.

If I go to malls it during broad daylight and I only visit Bowie Towne Center or The Boulevard @ the Capital Center. But due to the close proximity of the Metro (right across the street), I VERY RARELY visit the Boulevard. Sad to say...it went down hill with the opening of the Metro Station.

As for shopping...I'll ride down to Annapolis Mall or even Crofton for safer shopping.

First of all, this particular forum or thread seems quite civil...so far anyway. Thanks to the previous posters.

I noticed several folks say they don't ride the Metro anymore for various reasons. I ride it everyday on the Orange Line. It's 99% of the time an uneventful ride in - thank goodness for that. Which Metro lines or stations are you folks who don't ride Metro anymore talking about?
