Apparently the priest knew ahead of time the daughter was lesbian (maybe the mother confided in him about that), he should've approached the daughter BEFORE the mass that he would not give her Communion and explain why to avoid embarrassing this grieivng daughter as she is standing at the front of the line.
I wonder if this all-judging priest is also denying Communion to his parishoners who commt Adultery, are living together w/out benefit of marriage, unwed mothers, and fellow priests who are gay or touch alter boys.

How dare he ruin a lady's funeral to push his agenda. To walk away during her eulogy given by the daughter, and to skip out on the burial is outrageous.

..... Any religion can refuse members to communicate with its clergy, but what matters is the communion WITH GOD, and let God decide who he or she will communicate with.

Where in the bible does it say to deny anyone communion. It is a person's personal choice to take it or not according to his/her beliefs. The churches job is to offer it.

If you are open about your sin and have no shame or guilt then you should be denied, just keep it to yourself. Most sinners have guilt about there sin, but homosexuals do not, they are prideful about it and it is wrong!

I'll repeat what I posted on the other website (slightly edited) for all you religion bashers:

Let me get this straight- the Washington Post does a front page story on a lesbian that was denied communion at her mother's funeral. The story is extremely one sided and poorly researched. She's described as a "lifelong Catholic and former Catholic school teacher". Yet the Post didn't inform readers of her politicized Facebook and Twitter accounts.

In a paper for a master’s degree she’s pursuing at Kutztown State University, Johnson wrote of interviewing with a principal at a Catholic school in Maryland in which “we talked openly about my being a lesbian and a Buddhist.” She also declared she took the job “with all the zeal and enthusiasm of any natural born agitator who every now and again enjoys challenging the status quo.” This status quo she also called the “socially constructed heteronormative culture” and an “insidious heterosexist paradigm.”

On her website (now changed) she stated (describing herself):
"She considers herself a student of many things from Buddhist philosophy to nutrition and alternative medicine and she is a total believer in the notion that art works.”

First of all the story doesn't warrant front page coverage in any newspaper; secondly it told the story from only one viewpoint with very little research of publicly available facts and, third, the alleged victim admits being an agitator and a student of Buddhist philosophy.

In my opinion she used her mother's funeral in an attempt to flaunt her sexual orientation, demonize the church and sought as much publicity for it as she could find. She, and not the priest, is the truly despicable character in this story.

And most of you have been well and truly owned.

For the record I am not a Catholic (I'm not religous at all) and could care less about gays no matter where they are. But the preening, whining bias and religon bashing on display in this whole sorry episode is truly sad- substitute the word Muslim for Catholic and think about how much sympathy she'd get- presuming she wasn't stoned to death.

How dare a demonic lesbian open her mouth to receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ! Such sacrilege I wouldn't participate in either. Plus, she's a Buddhist.

But maybe that magical wafer and Jesus Juice would have turned her into a raving Catholic. Now we will never know. An opportunity missed.

What sexual orientation was 'Jesus the Joker'? He certainly spent a lot of time with his 'Boy gang'.

You can't prove Jesus was heterosexual. If he was of course he must have been a bit of a queer not to get it on with some of those women groupies who supposedly hung around him in his latter years.

You can call yourself 'thetruth', but it affords you no credibility in fact. You are just another delusional fantasist, making ludicrous claims you can't substantiate

The issue is not about being open with one's "sin," the issue is the priest denying her communion because he believes her homosexuality is sinful in the eyes of the church. So, what, was everyone else in the church sinless? I'm quite certain the priest himself is not without sin, so what gall on his part to believe, as a sinner, he has the right to give communion but deny it to a fellow sinner. I agree with the family, he should be removed from parish duties.

The priest said no to a big fat lesbian wearing man glasses who was flaunting her sexual choices and rejection of the Church's values at her Mother's funeral.

Good for him. After seeing her picture it's obvious all she really wanted was the cracker.

He did more than that; he also left the church during the service and didn't come back, nor did he go to the cemetery, causing more grief to the surviving members of the woman's family

Not good of the priest... again, he should not be allowed to serve in parish ministry. Reassign him to a men's prison or the coldest point of Antarctica.

really? you were there? I challenge you to prove this. And some left wing bat report is not proof.

I think this woman asked for what she got and used it to a tee. She's utterly despicable.

I don't need to prove it, I read the article.
I disagree with you; I'm quite certain you don't know her well enough to make such an assertion.
