Well Heaven forbid the police stop someone and write them a ticket for driving in violation of law. Not to mention that driving without your lights on in the rain is dangerous. Seems like your just bitter that the police got you for violating the law. Maybe they should concentrate on something important, like giving you a hug and a lollipop for the boo boo on your ego.

No she is not....however you may want to read what she said. She is as uninformed as you. She thinks that if 8/10 of a mile is annexed it will create a speed trap. I would bet that she, like you, can not defie a speed trap. But first lets simply look at the math for "speed traps" in 8/10's of a mile. The state will only issue a speed detection permit if department meets required points. A sign must be posted at the beginning of the speed enforcement area and no speed mesurements can be made within 500 feet of that sign. A sign must also be posted giving 500 feet of warning that the speed reduces. Then speed measurments cannot be made where the officer is not visible for 500 feet or more. What's more, local departments must allow 10 mph over the speed limit befor the device can be used for a stop. So if 8/10's of a mile is 4224 feet and we already have to allow 1500 feet out of that for regulations, that leaves 2724 feet to operate the device. And if the speed limit is 70 MPH on 985 that means that your vehicle would have to be going 81 mph minimum to be stopped. And at 85 mph you are moving at 118 feet per second. Now most laser and radars used by police work out to a distace of about 1200 feet. So now the 2724 feet to operate is almost cut in half. So that means the police officer has a total of 10 seconds to see you, make a visual estimate of your speed, aim the lasar or activate the radar, develop a tracking history, eliminate all other vehicles as the target, lock your speed on the device, and then track your vehicle after the stop. That's a lot of things to do in 10 seconds.
Now if you look at the numbers from Oakwood, Hall County, and GSP, the average speed they stopped vehicles for speeding on 985 was 94 mph. That means those people were moving 138 feet per second which cuts the time to 8 seconds.
Now do you really think that the Gainesville City Council is concered about how many tickets they can write on a 8 second section of travel you have more problems than the paranoia of a speeding ticket.
Now to educate you and others, the law defines a speed trap as any juridiction that operates the speed detection device in violation of any of the rules and regulations. Now do you think that Gainesville would risk losing the ability to operate speed detection devices for 8/10's of a mile.
A speed trap is not where a lot of speeding tickets are written. That is just where a lot of idiots speed. Because if everybody knows that a department is running aggressive speed enfocement and they still speed thru that area, they are idiots. It's like pointing a gun at your head when you know it's loaded.

Anyone who doesn't think Oakwood is one big speed trap is an idiot...I drive all over this country and the ONLY place I ever get pulled over is Oakwood...like tonight, at 2am, they pulled me over for going over the temporary posted lower limit in a "construction zone" - being that there was ZERO happening at 2am why the heck did they have officers staked out on both sides of the road? The officer didn't even try to defend the ethics of what they were doing.

Then the officer, hoping to get lucky I guess, forces me to take a full field sobriety test because he supposedly "smelled alcohol". Yea dude I'd had three beers hours ago...so how many people who truly might have been drunk whizzed by while you and your backup toyed with me for 25 minutes? He even asked me why I was "twitching" when it's 50 degrees out and I was shivering!

But you admit you were speeding and you admit you had been drinking. What exactly did the officer do wrong? If you knew the temporary speed reduction was in place; which by the way Oakwood does not put up the state does that, and you were still speeding you were wrong and are whining for a free pass. Why is that?

I just wish Bobby would have stood up to Oakwood the way he is standing up to Gainesville. Oakwood is a notorious speed trap and they need to be stopped. Their aggressive traffic enforcement forces folks out of Oakwood, I know I hate going through Oakwood for that reason. You know the funny thing is if your not speeding in Oakwood you don't get stopped! I have lived here with my wife and a business with two trucks on the road every day and can you believe I have never gotten a ticket or even been stopped for speeding here. I am thankful for the Oakwood city police and the job they do every day here. So if you cant drive the speed limit you really should stay out of Oakwood. We value getting home alive and safe over faster every day!

Seems that the annexation is going forward and the BOC was nowhere to be seen. It appears that Commisioner Banks only wanted to scream and shout for a little free publicity to draw the underhanded dealings of the BOC out of the spotlight. If Mr. Banks had really objected to the annexation he should have been there at the Planning and Appeals meeting. Or did he just realize that no one with any common sense was listening to his ramblings and buying the crap.

Oakwood is not a speed trap. Oakwood is just good at enforcing the speed laws in their city and you folks who get mad because you get stopped are trying to justify your breaking the law by blaming the people who caught you.
How come we never hear people call towns drug traps when the drug enforcement is good, or a murder trap where the agency catches a lot of murderers. Because those are crimes that the better than you crowd look down on, however they can blame the police for their lack of judgement in speeding, because everybody speeds.

You know you sure hate law breakers unless your speeding right because you said on another post about illegal immigrants and I quote
"illegal immigrants/aliens are ALL CRIMINALS!!!!

These illegal aliens are criminals that thumbed their nose at the laws of our nation. They broke the law by purposely and willfully sneaking across the border. They not only should be deported but should be permanently banned from ever returning and repeat offenders should receive sever prison sentences. These people are lawless criminals, otherwise they would fill out the paper work and follow proper legal procedures.

Illegal aliens show no respect to legal immigrants, US sovereignty and all decent people!"

So it seems you like to pick the laws you like enforced? Maybe we can permanently ban you from Oakwood.

Jefferson and Arcade are speed traps. Oakwood is speed trap wannabe. Gainesville is not a speed trap! How can you speed in Gainesville with all of those uninsured illegal aliens in their broken down heaps all over the roads. But I do wish the police would put the clamps on those foreign cab drivers and their aggressive reckless driving!

Joined this post late, but Gainesville City police isn't NEAR as bad as Flowery Branch. Remember the negative reputation that Oakwood PD obtained during the 80's as a speed trap city? Well Oakwood cleaned up their act and now Flowery Branch has it. FBPD went from being a community oriented department to nothing but a greedy city that tries to get every last dollar from traffic enforcement!(and no I haven't received a ticket from them)
