OAKWOOD - Hall County sheriff's deputies have arrested two men in a suspected home invasion in South Hall.
Maj. Jeff Strickland said two suspects entered a home on Leland Road around 9 a.m. An 11-year-old boy, who was at home sick at the time, hid in a closet and called authorities. No one else was in the house.
When officers arrived on the scene, Wayne Adam Shaw, 18, Gainesville, was arrested while the second suspect, Jose Luis Bautista-Osorio, 26, fled on foot and later was apprehended.
Bautista-Osorio was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. He is an illegal immigrant who had been deported in September after he was convicted of shoplifting and marijuana possession.
Shaw was charged with one count of burglary.
Strickland says a preliminary investigation shows the suspects are members of the gang SUR13, that the burglary was gang-related, and that the suspects were attempting to steal a firearm.
The chase lasted for nearly three hours and resulted in the lockdown of Chicopee Woods Elementary, South Hall Middle and Johnson High schools.
"We moved additional officers to the schools, inside and outside, while the search was being conducted," Strickland said.
The sheriff's office used trained dogs from its department as well as Gainesville police to track the suspect.
"By the time he left the residence, he ran through some yards, heavily wooded areas until he crossed Calvary Church Road and then we believe he traveled through the Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve near Johnson High School," Strickland said.
"From there, he was just running through yards and across some streets," he added.
The man was caught and arrested before noon in the Cedar Ridge apartment complex off Winder Highway, near Hollywood Video.
The lockdown was lifted after his capture.
At what point do we just get tired of the problem and start dealing with it on our own. Clearly our government has a different agenda because the situation keeps getting worse. I love hearing the folks in Washington DC telling me how legalizing all of the illegals (to include the criminals) is in my best interest. As a law abiding, tax paying, native born American citizen it's almost laughable. I often wonder what alternate universe our elected officials are living in. As a gun owner I have to say that if I find someone in my home without permission I'll shoot them dead. I guess then we could deport the body back to the "home" country of residence where it belonged in the first place.
