Vanilla Visa Concept

I believe that the Vanilla Visa concept is to freeze your account so the card does not work when you go to make purchases then provide such lousy, slow customer service that you eventually give up and Vanilla Visa gets to pocket all the money! That is what I believe. One thing for sure Vanilla Visa is one unpopular card and they have in my opinion the worst customer service department of any business I have ever encountered.

Got my $50 "mytreat" card three days ago, and still I have a zero balance. I called them a few times and they say they have a technical problem, and to call back in 5-6 hours. I did that a few times. The kick in the ass is whenever you call for help you are charged 50 cents to check the balance and 75 cents to speak to someone. This is Visas screw up, but i'm still losing money off my card from just trying to get help. What a crock!!

All of you are complaining about this card...just wow. Sure it is declined by some things, because afterall, IT ISNT A REAL DEBIT CARD. You can't treat a "Gift Card" like a real debit card, and most companies, brands, shops, etc. still will recognize it as a gift card. What I found out is possible it to use the card on a paypal account. Because you can go online to check your balance, you can activate the card onto a paypal account, and then simply buy things online with paypal using the money in your card. Simple.
Yeah tried adding it to a paypal account....doesn't work...ive used gift cards before and they have all worked, this particular brand just sucks. BBB will be notified.

I purchased a Vanilla VISA to make safe online purchases since it says on their website and in their service agreement that you can enter your name and address when you register the card and then use it at the millions of businesses that accept VISA. This is an outright LIE because it is NOT POSSIBLE to enter your name and address on the card online and there is no way to do it by phone either and most online (as well as many local) businesses use standard software to compare the name and address on the card with the customer's name and address, which will not match, thus, purchase will be DECLINED. It is false advertizing and FRAUDULENT! I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. I like the other suggestions here -- I will also report them to the CVS wehere I purchased the card. Never would have thought of doing that.

Yeah I just got suckered in. Wanted to make some purchases without adding to my credit card. Just wasted $100.00. Customer service? There is none. You don't even have the option of speaking with a customer service representative. You just get "invalid card number" and they hang up on you. Don't think it will do any good but will report to Visa, CVS, and BBB. It won't make a bit of difference though will it?

Do not purchase a Visa Gift card! I recieved a Visa gift card for $25 and tried to use it on my bill at the restaurant, the difference I would pay cash. The waitress swiped the card and it said decline. I told her to put $20 on it and it went through. What is annoying is there is a service charge of $3.95 for each use and they cannot automically deduct it from the card balance that's why it always says decline. This is ridiculous! They are scamming us by charging us $3.95 and more because if you are close to the end balance you can't even use the card! I would never give a Visa Gift card to anyone and I advise everyone to tell their friends and family members about this before thinking of purchasing one as a gift!

I am out $50 because the vanilla gift card will not activate without receipt. Why can't they activate it through the number on the card? Can't they check and see it has not been activated or used. Never ever buy a vanilla visa gift card. this is the second time this has happened.

I received a Vanilla card for my birthday. I have been trying to activate it for use but keep getting the msg that it is an invalid number. When I call the 800 number they want the numbers from the card and again the msg says it is invalid. There seems to be no way to get customer service. Their receipt shows the money added but it seems the company is getting the rewards of my gift.
Do not purchase from this company!

I have a lost Vanilla Visa. I went to their website and under FAQ/lost or stolen cards it says to immediately call the number ON THE BACK OF THE CARD - Really!!!!???? I found the number for Vanilla Visa and tried to call. it's an automated system that asks for the card number (which i do have) along with the expiration and 3-digit code on the back of the card. There are no real people to contact - just an automted system...... bunch of JERKS!!

Everyone should be very careful when when purchasing Target Visa Gift Cards because I got scammed!
I purchased eleven $100 Gift Cards for the Holidays. I made this purchase at the Burbank CA. Target Location. When i bought these cards, I opened them to use one of them, when i tired using it, it would decline the card so i was forced to open another one- yet again it got declined. I was forced to go back to Target and tell them what is going on with their cards. They very rudely told me that it is not their fault and that i should speak to Visa. After going back and forth i realized that the number scanned at the cashier to activate me gift card did not match the one on the reciept. I also noticed that on the bar code that is being scanned (to activate the card) there is a sticker-another barcode. I am guessing that these stickers are barcodes to activate other cards BESIDES MINE!
No i am in big problem waiting for answers from Visa. I am warning warning everyone of this problem because i dont want it to happen to you guys. So when buy, please make sure every number matches on ur gift card and your reciept.

As it is once more nearing Christmas time and others out there may be considering “gifting” these VISA prepaid cards, please be forewarned. They would be more aptly named as VISA RIPOFF cards. The one overriding common denominator that users are experiencing with these cards is that they are NOT user friendly.“Vanilla Visa” is one of the worst.

I have received several of these in the past, and it was like stumbling through an obstacle course trying to expend them. It took several unsuccessful attempts to use the cards, several phone calls to the card company's customer service number (when I could ever get through), diligence, and lots of patience before my prepaid VISA “gift” cards were finally expended and even then, I as the customer had to dole out instructions to the store clerks regarding how to process them. If the purchaser is attempting to purchase something that costs more than the value on the gift card, the store clerk must calculate the cost difference in ADVANCE and collect the difference in cost from the customer BEFORE scanning the Visa gift card. If the store tries to scan the card FIRST (applying it against the total purchase price) and collect the cost difference from the customer second, the card will be declined. Despite the fact that store merchants who sell (and are supposed to accept) these cards have a written contract in place with VISA, supposedly instructing them on how to process these stupid things, most store clerks are clueless on how to go through this ridiculous exercise. Climbing Mount Everest is easier than trying to use one of these cards in a restaurant.

The companies who market these cards are counting on the fact that once purchased, most of the people who were “gifted”(more like stuck) with these cards will give up using them out of sheer frustration and that only adds to the profit the company has already made on the sale of the card itself. Additionally, the card issuers get to deduct ridiculous monthly fees from the value of the card when not redeemed over a certain length of time. It is better to gift either cash or a specific store gift card that can be applied toward purchases in a NORMAL fashion without having to go through the confusion and absurd nonsense that most of these VISA prepaid cards inflict on unsuspecting customers.

I received a Vanilla Visa gift card for my birthday. Never heard of it so I didn't think anything of it.

Until I tried to use it, and it was declined. I attempted to call the number on the back of the card. It was automated, and I went through the process. Entered my card number, then the expiration date. Then when I entered the 3 digit code on the back, it says, "sorry, I didn't get that" and makes me repeat the entire process over. No option to speak to a REAL human being.

Went to their website to check the card, it says it doesn't exist. I don't know how my card doesn't exist, when it was bought and paid for at a local CVS.

Pretty disappointed.

I think the people who didn't have issues need to take the time to read some problems others have had. Of course nothing goes bad 100% of the time - then the company can't make a defense for itself.

But honestly, their own website is saying my card isn't valid and I have no way to contact customer service - how could this not be seen as a scam?

Vanilla Visa SUCKS! I bought one once! NEVER AGAIN!!!! I had to jump through hoops for a whole month before they would properly activate the card so that i could use it.

Contacting Vanilla Visa by email was a joke. Theor customer service did not respond.

And by phone....that was a living hell!

I advise anyone to NOT purchase a Vanilla Visa card!!!

Something needs to be done about Vanilla Visa Card. A government investigation of that company is surely needed! 60 Minutes should do an expose on how awful it is.
