We got several of these cards for $100 each as a gifts and all were declined so I called the customer service number on the back and was told that I could not use the full amount on the card only $80 was available to use and in 48 hours I could use the rest. The agent was a complete smart ass extreemly rude! What good is a $100 card that I can only use $80 of Absolutly stupid

Just had the same problem as Monchichipox, although the $150 card I bought 3 weeks ago did work for around $60 in purchases, it suddenly is declined, and the number shows up 'invalid' both on the web site, and so called customer support line with - as mentioned - no recourse to speak to a rep. Guess I just got hosed too.

Dear Robert -- If indeed Vanilla Visa were a "superior product," it would not even be necessary for SO MANY (hundreds, if not thousands of) customers to continually have to take time out of their busy schedules to "call the number on the back of the card and ask for Robert." FIX THE INHERENT PROBLEMS WITH YOUR COMPANY'S CARD -- Make them WORK the FIRST time -- Problem solved. And don't even TRY coming back on this post, claiming how your customers are the ones doing everything wrong. That is a Vanilla Visa crock that has already run its gamut and has continually been proven bogus.

I just bought two Vanilla Visa cards. I tried using a 25 dollar gift card to purchase food and it was declined twice. The person put it in for a lesser dollar amount and then it worked. After I have gotten a good use of the 100.00 gift card ( fingers crossed) this will be the last time I will purchase this card. I am reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau to be investigated. If this has not been corrected, then I will go a step further and report them to my local news. I work to hard for my money to get taken advantage of when I am investing it in a product that should work!

well, ditto all of the above. My sister bought me one of these cards earlier this month as a gift. I tried to use it in 2 stores and both declined the card. The second shop was Sainsburys who actually sold the card in the first place !!!!!! I called customer servicews who told me that I should pay the balance first and then use the card for ther remainder of ther balance. So off I went again to yet another store - and guess what, the card was declined again !!!!! FRUSTRATED !!! The cards are totally rubbish. I have managed to use my card, at last but actually insisted that the shop called the customer services while I was there, which after about 20 minutes worked in my favour, and the card was finally accepted. I would never buy one of these cards, and would reccommend that people do not touch them with a barge pole. Spread the word people - do not purcase these cards

I wonder what happened to baporove and Very good card. The last I heard was from baporove's boyfriend that baporove is gay but these two guys have not posted anything since then. I wonder if baporove got a job or if the two of them got bored with posting. I know someone from Canada that claims to have had a problem with this card several times. I don't understand why anyone would buy the card even a second time if they had a problem, let alone several times. Both the Canadian and American versions are trash. Vanilla thinks that apologies are the answer to everything and that somehow people are supposed to not be upset with the company if a customer service representative shows empathy. Vanilla Visa can take its empathy and shove it where the sun don't shine.

I am glad that I am not the only one who has a problem with a Vanilla Visa gift card.
I bought one for $250 as a gift plus eight dollars in activation fees. When the recipient tried to use it he was told that he has used all the money. He never spent a penny of it and Vanilla Visa says that if the merchant refunds them, I will get the money back. It is now four months all the ID's that they asked for I faxed them, and I still have nothing. I think the whole thing is a scam and we should have a class action to get our money back plus frustration money!!!!!

I am a young person.(under 18) so i don't have access to a bank account or anything so my way of buying things online is buying gift cards. VanillaVisa cards have always worked for me. I'm not sure what happened to you but i sure hope it doesn't happen to me!

It is very curious, Lutsyuk, that if Vanilla Visa cards (for which you are being charged hefty activation fees through the nose BTW) have "always worked for you," then what prompted you to find your way onto a site like this designed for card users who have had nothing but PROBLEMS and is often being utilized by those people who have ulterior motives for promoting (or demoting) the card?? Very interesting .....

Have you activated the card? It won't be accepted until you do! Go on-line to www.vanillavisa.com for the 800 # to phone to activate, check balance, etc. You can only spend the amount left on the card!

Have you read all the complaints?? You would not sound so clueless if you had! Unbelievable.

You need to register the Vanilla Card before you can use it. Go to https:/www.vanillavisa.com (the site on the back of the card) and go to Edit My Card. Put in any zip code and you can use the card.

Do you know how many people have registered, and registered, and registered, and called, and called, and called Vanilla Visa's customer service number, and they have been told lie, after lie, after lie about why the card would not work and that another one was "in the mail" but never came. PLEASE stop being so cavalier about what you PRESUME all of these hundreds, and hundreds, and hundreds of customers are doing wrong. You know NOT of where you speak. If your card worked for YOU the way it was supposed to, GREAT!-- you can go on about your Vanilla Visa merry way! However, this site is where customers sustaining PROBLEMS have come to -- so what was YOUR problem that brought you here????

I just another one of these stupid Vanilla Visa cards for my birthday. I used it at a hotel to make a deposit, then paid the hotel bill with a credit card. I check out of the hotel, then the hotel voided out the transaction because there were no incidentals. I found out that the funds were still being held. I contacted the hotel and it sent Vanilla Visa a fax on company letterhead. After 48 hours my funds were still being held. I contacted Vanilla Visa and was informed that my funds could not be realized because the merchant had only put the last 4 digits of the card number on the fax and because the authorization number was missing two zeros are the front. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told the same thing that the fax need to have the full 16 digit card number and needed to full 6 digit authorization number. I explained that the merchant cannot provide the full card number for security reasons and that the authorization number was correct except for two zeros at the front. I stated that I will be telling all my friends how horrible this product is if the funds are not put back on the account. The supervisor then apologized and stated it was company policy and that the information had to match exactly and that the full card number needed to be on the fax. I then told the supervisor that I thought she was being very anal and that it was obvious that the merchant was not going to collect. The supervisor then warned me that she was going to disconnect the call if I continued to use this type of language and that the 16 digit card number needed to be on the fax and that all the information had to match exactly. She then stated that if she bent the rules for me, then it would not be fair to everyone else. Talk about very bad business. I don't understand how Vanilla Visa can care so little about losing customers. Given how lousy the customer service is, I don't know how Vanilla Visa has managed to stay in business so long without going bankrupt. If I owned a business, I would never be that anal about a procedure. I really wish my friends would stop buying me Vanilla Visa cards. These cards are nothing but a hassle to use.

I work at a restaurant... We had a guy come in and he had a 75.00 card, his bill was only 51.00. The card was declined. We even tried smaller amounts. So your advice sucks. Oh, it was a brand new, unopened card. As far as math goes... Thats 24 dollars under the amount...

For all of you who said to learn math, you must work for them. I have $75.00 gift card. I used $12.05. I tried to spend $5.49...and it got declined several times. I don't know bout you but I don't need to learn math to know I still have money left . I tried to check the website to see my balance, its not working. I tried to call and I get a ring followed by a busy signal. Totally sucks!! They are taking people's money

Agreed. This has nothing whatsoever to do with customer "math skills." It has everything to do with a horribly poor product, that is anything BUT user friendly, being marketed by a disreputable company. There is no other plausable explanation.
