Why do Gainesville drivers only use one lane each way of a 4 lane road?

I've been in Gainesville for 25 years and have never understood why so many Gainesville/Hall County drivers only use one lane each way of a 4 lane road. IT IS A 4 LANE ROAD! TWO LANES GOING IN BOTH DIRECTIONS!!!!!

By only using 1 lane each way it backs up traffic twice the distance and keeps drivers needing to make a right turn onto a side street from being able to do so!

We have been taught to keep right except to pass.

The only problem with that is that too many of them drive in the left (passing) lane of I-985 at only 60 mph!

I think the reasons are there are too many drivers here with far less than a triple digit IQ!

And far too many from south of the border that never saw a paved road until they illegally migrated here! Toss in the farmers from North Hall, the clunkers from southside Gainesville and the Jackson Countians that work here and you get a real mess!

If you travel up 365 and 985 to work you will discover people including police travelling well above 65 with speeds in excess of 80. If you dont get over and out of thier way they will run you over or travel up your backside. There was alos an incedent of road rage on 985 recently when somoeone was run off the road. If I see someone trying to get onto the road I will try to get over if possible.

I see Gwinnett police driving up to Gainesville on I-985 all the time and they always are speeding at about 80-85 mph. There is no reason fro them to be driving that fast when they go out of their jurisdiction.

Academy Street is one really bad spot where all the morons pile up in the far right north bound lane going north and no one uses the inside left north bound lane. Traffic backs up in front of the Green Street building down just this one lane of a 4 lane road to almost the library! It makes it a nightmare for anyone who wants to turn right onto the downtown section of Green Street. How absolutely moronic of these really dumb drivers. It is proof that we have a large mass of uneducated morons with IQs of about 75. As a Gainesvillian this is just embarrassing!

I find the postings about the bizarre congregation of Gainesville drivers into just 1 lane when 2 are available to be highly unusual. I attribute it to the fact that there are way too many drivers on Hall County roads that lack any semblance of common sense.

Here is the real thing. Someone in the DOT needs to realize I-985 and 365/369 whatever you want to call it is an Interstate and needs to be maintained and treated that way. Instead of being a great big speed trap we need some road improvement and more lanes. There are a mass of people coming out of Habersham and Hall heading towards Atlanta.
