Don't let the Gainesville Times Scam You

Ok good people, the economy has hit hard for all of us, but the blatant attempt of the Gainesville Times to make money off of you is disturbing for even them. Log onto the local "news" sight and try to read a story. They now require you to create an account and provide personal information to read the online version of the "news". They go as far as setting the default to allow them to sell your information to advertisers and who knows aha other companies. As far as being a legitimate news source, the Gainesville Times has never been a fair, even, or even accurate media outlet. Since the Gainesville Times and the Hall County Chamber of Commerce refuse to report on any real news or controversy, the Times has been more of a joke among the locals. Now because the paper edition is so bad that birds won't use it in the cage, and the online edition is becoming as bad, they have stooped to subterfuge to make a few dollars from the people. Is it criminal or even wrong to want to make a few cents for a failing business? No. but they could try making a fair, balanced, accurate, open, and honest newspaper. That would be sure to bring in a few more dollars each week, and might elevate them from being the joke of North Georgia Media.

The Times spiraling down

Atlanta, GA

Professionalism at The Times has been on the decline for quite sometime. They obviously can't afford to pay quality reporters, their print quality is awful and the color is almost always out of register, and their subscription delivery service is grossly inadequate. They even have problems keeping editors sober enough to drive.

Why would anyone pay for The Times website? First of all, AccessNorthGA and the AJC have free news websites. Secondly, The Times website is extremely slow, cumbersome and poorly designed. Thirdly, The Times has third rate reporters, very amateurish.
