In 1974 My family was camping in the north end of Lanier and my brother caught a bass and while pulling it in an 8 ft gator took it off his line. We were preparing for a 3 week camping trip thru northen Canada in Canoes and had been practicing rolling our canoes and recovering gear all the previous day. Noone believed us then. Keep in mind Lake lanier drains into the hooch that leads into Eufaula which is Alligator infested.

6-17-07.....My husband and I saw an alligator on the shore of Lake Lanier located at 1 SH. We reported this to the DNR only to find out that they had "several reports last year but this was the first one this year" Said that they would send someone to that area. Since the DNR didn't seem too concerned, I thought I would try to get the word out. This alligator was not in the water when we first saw it; it was up on the beach. It ran into the water as we got closer. It surfaced 5 or 6 times as it left the area.(Only the nose and eyes were visible) I know this seems hard to believe, but we saw this and wanted everyone to know.
One small gator was caught 2 years ago in Flat Creek by local law enforcement. Several traps were placed with zero luck. They happened to have someone call that had seen it near their yard.
One gator is very difficult to catch. How large is this gator? Keep in mind we had temps of 15 F over the winter. I doubt this gator is a hold over.
If it is not caught,it most likey will not survive the winter. Lanier turns over an would be too cold to sustain the gator.

I have not seen that gator yet but I really think DNR SHOULD check it out because if it hurts somebody its gonna be all their fault.

Recently we camped at Duckett Mill August of 2010 and I was up early one morning, and heard what I thought was someone fishing around our boat,, so I decided to look and see if i saw anyone,, what I heard next was like a slapping noise,, what i thought was a board or something hitting the water,, after walking down the bank a ways i saw was a gator,, not sure of size because it was then swimming away but close to edge, I ran over to my moms camper where I had hollered over there if she was seeing what I saw,, she was shocked also!!! We haven't told anyone as I thought people would just laugh us off,, but we watched the gator for about 5 or so minutes swim in and around the bank then across the cove where we then lost sight. If anyone has had any new sightings, I'd love to hear of them.

Too Bad they euthanized him
Hall Co.'gator captured,
By B.J. Williams
EMAIL STORYCONTACT EDITORPRINT
GAINESVILLE - A seven-foot alligator that's been wandering parts of Hall County for years was caught over the weekend and euthanized.
The gator was seen Sunday afternoon crossing White Sulphur Road, apparently trying to make his way to Lake Lanier.
One resident in the area told Fox 5 she had seen the 'gator, which she named Gus, for the last four to five years.
State Department of Natural Resources officials say it is likely someone brought Gus to the area when he was small and turn him loose in the lake. Gus was put to death because the DNR felt he was too familiar with humans and might be a danger to them.
The alligator's skull and skin would be given to an educational facility for study.
It was not the first time an alligator has been spotted in Lake Lanier. One was seen in the lake in the summer of 2008.(See earlier stories.)

I sure hope there's no gators in Lanier. We always take our boat out to that lake every year and have not been harmed.
P:S Does anybody know how long the stupid catfish can be?

Its a lake in Georgia. I've never been there, but Alligators are common in Georgia. There is nothing to worry about unless you mess with it. I fish banks lake all the time and come side to side with gators that are as big as my boat. The sound of people and loud noises will scare it away. if i was the dnr i wouldnt worry either. Its common sense get away from it or hit it with something.
