6-17-07.....My husband and I saw an alligator on the shore of Lake Lanier located at 1 SH. We reported this to the DNR only to find out that they had "several reports last year but this was the first one this year" Said that they would send someone to that area. Since the DNR didn't seem too concerned, I thought I would try to get the word out. This alligator was not in the water when we first saw it; it was up on the beach. It ran into the water as we got closer. It surfaced 5 or 6 times as it left the area.(Only the nose and eyes were visible) I know this seems hard to believe, but we saw this and wanted everyone to know.

I would never have believe it had i not seen it with my own eyes!!!!!!!We've gone to this very spot MANY times over the last several years with our children. It's perfect for beaching with kids to cookout and spend the day. We will look for more populated area from now on. It is my understanding that gators stay in shallow, more warm waters?...... We will only take our children to well populated areas in hopes that people have scared any unwanted animals away.
We did not think to take pictures of the gator as it left the area, but did take pitures of the tracks it made on the beach......I would be happy to forward these pictures to you. You can get a secured email address thru Yahoo or Hotmail if you want.
The gator that we saw was about 4 feet long.....but i can't help but think.....Where's it Mom????????

In know someone who has their boat docked at Aqualand Marina. They saw this alligator Monday night. They too contacted the DNR who acted like they didn't want anyone to know about this incident. As of June 26 the gator has not been caught.

1 SH is not far from Aqualand Marina. DNR probably doesn't know what to do with the gators and does not want people to know. Makes me wonder how many are out there and how long they've known about them!!!!! I guess it's up to us to pass the word.

I am at aqualand on zm dock. My fiance', friends and I have spoted the alligator also. We have only seen the snout and eyes, but it body flopped 4 times one morning and then we saw it swimming 3 nights after. We are the ones that called dnr that morning, but they got mad because of the time and they ignored the need to observe the situation. I also feel that they do not care about the safety of everyone trying to enjoy the lake, and those of us that have boats at any dock. It seems to be 5-6ft long.

Oh my gosh if you face Old Federal Campground from the middle of the main part of the lake we live on the left side of the Campground. Where is this marker located from this location? The DNR needs to get an expert here to get this gator out of here. I hope there is only one.
The DNR needs to move this alligator out of here NOW.

One alligator! In Florida the lakes are lined with them. The chances of getting hit by lightning is greater.

There has been numberous sightings of alligators in Lanier over the years. They have never hurt anyone and it is speculated that they die in the winter if really cold due to their reptilian cold bloodiness. In other words they need heat to survive.
This is no big deal and not worth worrying about. Just don't torment it.

An alligator may be afraid of people....
but for those of us who have elderly family and friends that live there with pets this is really scary!

Brook is this a story you all made up or is it real? The Times Newspaper is very interested in your story if this is true, how can they reach you?
