Not true. I've lived here for a while, and I've seen few signs of racism, none of them dramatic. You can never find a city without some degree of segregation, Gainesville is no worse than any New York or any other city.

Segregation is normal. Other than in the workplace, whites and blacks don't generally mix in social environments. This is natural and instinctual for most people. There's nothing wrong with it. It's only the controllers of big media who are constantly encouraging whites and blacks to give up their respective cultures and become one homogenized and easily manipulated mass.

I've lived in gainesville 22 years --graduated UF ---I DON'T SEE a lot of racism ....things are a bit diff in many of the smaller country towns
I did see a KKK in mcntosh a few years ago --but everyone black,white n latino was booing them..

I have realistic concerns regarding my move to Gainesville/ Hawtorne, Florida. I am raising my nephew who is of mixed race. His mother(my sis) was white and his father is black. he is red bone(light brown). I have been recently thinking ofd moving to Hawtorne,Fl to be closer to family. I recently been advised that I should not move there due to the color of my nephews skin. I would really appriciate some help. Thank you...

Some of the outlying towns are a little more sensitive to race and color. Gainesville itself is a pretty open , loving town with a diverse ethnic and cultural base of people. I've been associated with the area since I took up residence in '72, and find it a great place to live and raise my children ...

How come when black people segregate themselves they call everyone else rasist? How come there is a black college fund but God forbid there be a white college fund? There would be a lawsuit for sure. There is black history month but if there were a white history month it would be rasist. The biggest rasists are BLACK! Blame everyone else for your problems but at the end of the day look in the mirror. You choose your path. Quit blaming everyone else for your own problems.
