I'm really tired of the Jackson County School System. It has become corrupt more and more every year. There are many things that I want to discuss. but it will take many post in which I will be more than happy to attend to later. This is one voice speaking, but there are many others that will agree. First off... I have seen the movie "Bully" My son came home 1 year ago with a trash bag. He told me that his jacket got wet and brought it in like any kid would do. I thought nothing was wrong until 5 weeks later my cousin ask how my son was doing and told me that he was bullied in Jackson County Middle School and that the bully's flushed his Jacket down the toilet. My son had told the teacher and other faculty members. He told them who it was and you would think that something would be done about it.....Nothing happen instead he had to get his jacket out of the toilet himself...no help except for the trash bag that was provided to him. My son has Asperger syndrome. He is quite and reserved young man. The teachers and faculty did not call me. Till this day he refuses to wear a jacket school. Oh well I guess I wonder how those Lady Blue Devils are doing or if the Football team is going to win this year...

Which brings me to my next point...Is that all that this county and schools can offer to kids is sports. What about kids who are great in art, music, and theater? What about those kids? What are they supposed to do? Why is it that "Ball" is the only thing that gets pushed in this county? If there is a kid who likes stuff like that get taunted and ridiculed in school. It makes me sick. The teachers make me sick. There is only 5 teachers in the whole school system that I can think of that were a big inspiration to me and my child. I'm not going to go into names because that would for people to get off onto another subject.

The last thing I will mention is about school food. I use to love the schools food when I was kid, but now the food has really gotten bad according to my son. I think that the State is on the right track to try to help in Child-hood obesity. I really do...but you know to me its not really helping. I think its help control the cost of spending money to feed these kids because when they get home...they splurge on junk food because they are starving to death. I ate at school. I got candy and soda out of the machine and maintain my weight. I don't know...I treating this statement with sarcasm.

My Closing thoughts are: What do we do? Where do we go? and how can the School System comply with some parents wishes instead of the popular vote? I can always move but I love Jackson County. I grew up here and love the characters that thrive here. Its Rich in history and could be more than just a pretty good ball team county. I dont hate sports if comes across like that. I just think we can do more for the county than just worry about "Ball". Thank you and God-Bless

There are more sports that that, but there is also the band. I agree it doesn't get the support it should, nor does art. Yes, we could use more programs and classes. The question is how would we pay for them?

Bullying is a problem, without question. The response of some teachers is also a problem. I've heard many similar stories. As parents we can whine about it or each of us contact the Board and the school and work together for solutions to the problem. We also have to start at home.

That being said, there is a lot wrong, but there are also many things that are right. There are some wonderful teachers in our school system. There are also some wonderful people working as staff, from Lori at GES to June, Daisy, and Keisha at JCMS.

If we're going to complain about what is wrong we need to acknowledge what we appreciate. It's also pointless to just complain on this board. The only positive that can come of that is if we use the board to come up with answers to our problems and take action to implement them. There is a lot you aren't happy with, and that's fair enough, but what are your suggestions for making things right?

How do you solve arguments between your own children if you did not see or hear what happened? I'm assuming first of all you find out if anyone did witness it. If not second you listen to both of their stories and try to figure out what really or probably happened.
That is no different than what the teacher would do. It makes it very hard when there are no witnesses and we must remember there are always two sides to every story. Teachers really don't handle much of the discipline anymore these days, but they do report it to the principle if they are aware of it. I know you feel not enough is being done but you must remember how many students there are and how hectic it is at the end of the day with over 500 kids ready to go home. I also disagree with your statement that there are very few good teachers. Jackson county is a small community but we are blessed with many great teachers. I truly hope your situation gets better!

My son said he was being pushed around at school and teachers would do anything about it I told him to punch that boy in the face then and he said he would get in trouble I told him I dare them to call me to the office over it. I think Jackson county schools are a joke how many of those teachers are actually qualified to teach ??? I got a note home last year saying that in the elementery school grades were down and they wanted volunteers to have their kids go to Dodsons Branch to make classes smaller. My thought was maybe they need to be seeing and investigating how these teachers are teaching in class. I habe gone up against a school about lunches before and came out the winner they had to stop serving the crap they were serving and I think its about time to go to the news and the state to see if these kids are really getting the education that the state pays these teachers to give I bet we would all be surprised. My daughter comes home with so much homework makes me wonder what the teacher does in class. If we all start speaking up to the state and the news and media it can't be ignored

. A kid that has to pull his jacket out of the toilet and you think there are 2 sides to a story regardless if my 2 fought and I didn't see but one flushed the others things in the toilet I don't care what happend they would be in a world of trouble for flushing something of someone's in the toilet. If it were your child pulling his jacket out of the toilet and school didn't do anything I am sure you wouldn't sit there and ask to hear the other child's side would you???

What happened to Field Trips in schools? I can count on my hand how many times my child has been to a school trip. I use to go on summer trips with mr bently. We went all over the state and had lots of fun. Oh well lets just let the kids out early so the kids who play sports go play while the other kids can go home.

They should have a class on bullying. That should be a requirement like everything else. Maybe that would help. I will be taking action with the school system. I just wanted to hear from everyone else and see what they thought.

School is what you make it. If you want it to be a bad place, it will be, but in turn if you want it to be a good place, it will be too. I do agree, there are two sides to every story. IF bullying is reported to the teachers, then it is their obiligation to report it to their principal. Often times, the only people the students report things to is their parents and it is very hard for the teachers to do anything about it if they are not made aware of it. I am a parent of two children whom have both been educated in our school system and I am very satisfied with the results. Futhermore, if your child has mountains of homework, I would suggest to you that you find out what your child is doing in class. Neither of my children have that much homework, because they use the time they are given to complete it.

I do agree that there needs to be more programs for students other than sports...but I do know when things have been offered their has been so little participation that they had to stop the program. So if something is offered....sign your child up so at least they will know there is some interest in alternative programs.

Stop pointing out all the negatives and perhaps you will see that there a more positives than you can imagine in J C Schools. Also, remember the attitude that you present, will be reflected in your child...so if you hate school, chances are your child will too.

Well my son psychiatrist stated the school system is being completely unfair to him and she told me that she would pursue the school system if it ever happens again. She has worked with our son for last 4 years and he tells her everything. She knows how the school is and how it only benefits certain individuals. She told me that something needs to be done with the school system.

I've have always looked at both sides of the story and tried to make the best minded decision. I'm tired of my child getting bullied and coming home upset everyday and by the way it sounds you work with the school system or one of those high up society members who go to church on Sunday's and is a hypocrite through the week. The School System in Jackson County is perfect I realize that but it should do better than what it is doing

If I may interject my two cents.
I am a parent with kids in the school system and I have seen a few things. There are some very good teachers in all of the schools, but the administrators and office staffs are very hit and miss. A good example of this is in the middle school. It is terribly political there and it shows on a daily basis with the students, teachers, and principals actions. You have kids assaulting other kids and getting no punishment for it because their parents are teachers, kids bullying other kids which has went on for years until something was finally done (which still was just a slap on the wrist from what I've heard). You also have kids getting kicked off ball teams for failing grades while other kids are allowed to keep playing.

I mean really, what do they expect from that school, the minute you walk in the door you have to listen to the secretaries gossip about everyone in the buildings business, and teachers who do not suck up get treated like dirt by the principals. People talk, and teachers talk too. Kids pick up on this, how can you expect a child to show respect for other people when respect isn't even shown from the adults to the other adults in the building. Kids know the deal, one of my kids came in today and told me they had a substitute who spent the entire time on her cellphone and allowed the students to get out their phones too. They said that once the students were allowed to get their phones out the entire grade " owned" the sub and threatened to tell on the sub if they didn't let the class do whatever they wanted. Another time the same child said one of her teachers decided they "didn't wanna teach today because it was a friday" so they just played a movie while they surfed the net for shoes. Surely they can do better than this.

You want to know what I was pissed about my daughter came home last night she is in the 3 rd grade won't mention her dumbass teachers name but she said her homework was an experiment and it was to wait till dark and take the hard piece of peppermint and try to bite it in 2 with her front teeth so see if it made a spark. Ok first of all when she tried it without telling me what she was doing she about broke her tooth. I want to know where these teachers have their credentials from. That was the dumbest homework assignment I told her to tell her teacher there was no way in hell she was doing it unless they were gonna pay the dentist bill when she broke her tooth. I almost went in today and made her teacher try it. And we wonder why test scores are so crappy its cause the damn teachers are crappy I can not wait to move away from this school system so my children will have a chance at a way better education
