An early morning argument among several men Sunday led to the shooting death of Joseph H. Burnette in the back yard of his home in western Gibson County, according to the Gibson County Sheriff's Department.

Those two boys took the life of someone very precious to alot of people....They deserve whatever they get!!!!It was just a bunch of young boys trying to be bad, and someone got killed because of that!!!!

Well two boys didn't kill that kid... ONE did and you are right he does deserve whatever he gets.

They both deserve jail time. Just because only one of them pulled the trigger doesn't make the other one innocent. He is an accessory to the crime. It was the other boys fault that they where even at Joe's house. They both deserve the maximum prison time.

All our prayers and condolences going out to Joseph Burnette's family & friends. As for as the killers they both deserve the death penalty A.S.A.P. Both intenionally shot to death an innocent young man in the prime of his life and they both deserve to die for murdering that man! JUSTICE NOW

So if you were with your friend and they decided to kill someone, Do you think you should get the Death penalty? There was not one person that knew the shooter had a gun. Ward did leave the scene with the shooter.... He was most likely scared and confused, and made the right decision to turn himself in. You can't always control what your friends do.

No, I don't believe you do know the law or you would know that Ward is an accessory to crime as soon as he left with Reed. Then to top it off he ditched the gun. Lets go to the beginning, Reed and Ward went over to Burnette's house to commit assault. Then Reed shot Burnette, using Ward's uncle's gun that they stole. So here we are, Reed is the actual murderer however Ward is now an accessory to the murder. I know the law. I have been studying it for 5 years. I even have a degree in it and am working on getting another in it. So don't tell me I need to study the law; I do everyday. Also when your having an intelligent discussion with someone, it is not proper to use foul language; but this is assuming you have intelligent words to use.
P.S. I do have a cell phone, but I'm sure it's one that is too complicated for you to understand. I know this because, when I use it, I know how to turn all caps off.

Never said I was better than you. If I thought that I would have said that. Also, I never said I was going to be a lawyer. I study the law through Criminal Justice. So my "clients" will eventually be the cold bodies on the slab. I am also not "bashing" your intelligence, I am simple saying that in an intelligent conversation you should at least act like it. In all reality you "friends" (assuming they are you friends) will probably get less than they deserve. In that town, the will judge will more than likely just give Ward community service, if that, and Reed's charge will more than likely be dropped to manslaughter and get minimum jail time. Justice? Not at all, but that's how's the Criminal Justice system works up there. I know this cause I used to live there.
And why don't you say who you are, acting like you were there and witnessed it all.

i agree with Middleton.. it doesnt matter if Ward shot the guy or not.. he left with the shooter and they used his uncles gun they stole.. but my question is this.. why did they steal the gun?? and did it just so happen to be in the guys coat when the fight broke out and he decided "oh yea we stole this gun im just gonna shoot somebody" you could almost say this was premediated since the gun was stolen.. i think both should get the max sentence.. and sandydee, your right you dont have to know the law to know what happened but thats also why those guys are in the trouble they are in now.. they didnt know or respect the law.. i too have a degree in criminal justice..but i also know that you dont have to have a degree to know that you shouldnt shoot somebody...come on now.. and no you cant control what your friends do but you do have control over yourself..

I was wondering about why they stole the gun in the first place also and that it should be considered premeditated murder. They may not have premeditated on killing Joe, but it does seem they thought about killing someone there.
Also Ward wouldn't be an accessory to the murder if he would have just stayed behind and called that cops, but he chose to get in the truck and run.

"They" did not steal the gun. Reed stole the gun. Ward was unaware that Reed had the gun.

Well, in the eyes of the law, Ward should have stayed behind. If it is true that this is his first offense, then he probably will just get community service. Also, if it is true Reed wanted to kill him self then his lawyer will more that likely have him evaluates by a shrink. If the test will show he is depressed and wasn't in the right state of mind then he will probably go to a rehabilitation center for help. I'm not trying to ruin his rep, he did that when he ran. I don't know Reed and Ward, but I did grow up with Joe. He was a good guy and didn't deserve to die like that.
