I guess they can get the pittbull's DNA from the saliva that's on the throats of the victims.....the sheep, you know.

What confuses me is that the FARMER said those poor sweet dogs also tried to attack him......but I guess he's a liar too, and shot a perfectly innocent animal. Yeah, right.

Just how do they know it is no longer a danger to the public? The cops didn't explain that comment at all. If it got out once, it can get out again, and it will. So because it's home now means it will never get out again to maul to death someone's pet, farm animal, or a person.

No it is people like you that give pit bulls their bad names!! you people commenting on this do not even know the story and you do not know the owners so you have no right putting down the owners because you have no place and no right what so ever! i personally know the owners and i have been around both of these "viscous" pit bulls! and they are not dangerous dogs at all! we have a a 2 month old child around the one that got shot and all he did was lick her little head.. sorry but that is not viscous!! so get your facts start before you start running mouths!!
Right, I am sure if it all of sudden snapped the 2 month's old neck you would say it was not the dog's fault. People like you should not be allowed to own dogs period! Any dog running loose should be open season.

If I was that farmer I would be carrying a gun with me when I was out. You can bet your life that dog will return sooner or later and be thirsty for blood.

I would consider the dead carcass of the one dog in the vicinity of the dead carcasses of the sheep a pretty good indication that the dog in question was indeed involved.

Your right they are not vicious they are dogs, terriers. Terriers doing what they are bred to do ( genetics) people do not understand that. If a Jack Russell kills a cat they are going to call it vicious or maybe just an accident when again it's a terrier doing what is in its genetics.

On that note, the owners are irresponsible and have no business owning this breed. They are dangerous in the fact they need to be properly supervised so they do not escape again and injure or kill another animal. Just because a dog killed an animal does not mean they will go after a child! People do not understand that either...

Are you blind or just plain stupid the dogs atacked and killed another animal,(vicious=Causing harm or injury)Twelve sheep were killed and eight were injured,I Think that fits the term Vicious! Not Viscous. The owners are responsible for the damage caused to the farmer and his sheep and the dogs do need to be put down. Once a dog taste blood it will crave it again. Not all Pitts are bad, but the ones that do turn need to be delt with accordingly! Hagerstown has become over run with careless Pitt owners. and its a shame, most of them should not even own a pet. But if they do not keep the dog under proper supervision or containment and training, then they have to pay the penalty. The dog being sweet around kids is one thing but being visicous around other animals is another. Your friends, the owners of the dogs got careless now they have to pay and they also just raised the bar against Pitbulls because they got careless. If you want to own a Pitbull then you should have to go thru training in the care and protection of the animal. Not just get one because a friends dog just had a bunch of puppies and you want one.
Once a dog tastes blood?? OMG we all better put all our dogs down now. You sir are an idiot and should not believe in myths. Dogs bite a vet, or vet tech or even their owner, they get a taste of blood, should they be put down??

Dogs follow their natural instincts...!! Other than that I agree with most of whatelse you said. People do not know how to handle their dogs regardless of breed. It's not natural for Chihuahuas to be ankle biters, nasty little dogs. It's irresponsible owners treating them like small children and not training them.

Owners now a days look at dogs as being able to think and act human thus alot of behavorial issues.

Shut up already! I am a Pit owner. I have 2 plus 2 other breeds in my home. It's people like you and the owners that just keep making matters worse for the breed. They can prove weather or not the dogs did it. Dogs have natural instincts, their actions of what they did is not the dogs fault. It's your wonderful friends fault for being irresponsible owners. They dogs should have been properly contained. Even if they were in a fenced in yard the dogs should have still been supervised. Dogs should never be left unsupervised regardless of "good" they are.

Some others made comments, dogs do not just snap. There is always a reason behind their actions. Training (bad owners,) genetics. Rage syndrome, other health issues. I know a Boxer that out of the blue attack the child in his home. Turns out it had a brain tumor.

Dogs attacking kids, people need to research the history of that dog. Again it can fall on irresponsible owners letting their kids torment the heck out of the dog, dog has enough goes after kid.

Irresponsible owners letting infants alone with a dog, 9 out 10 the baby starts crying, dog does not know what to do, and licks the baby, tries to pick baby up and bites happen or worse. Some dogs know they can play with the little humans and get carried away but again there is no supervison when it happens. People assume the dog just snapped! No one bothers looking for the real reason why!!

To those recommending the farmer carry a gun, remember this is "The Peoples Republic of Maryland" and carrying a gun could get him in serious trouble. We don't want people to be able to protect themselves do we? Better to call the police, yeah sure they will get there in time.

I am pretty familiar with Funkstown, having worked at the veterinary clinic there, and at the address where the surviving dog was located, there aren't ANY farms, let alone a 137 acre one with all the animals you describe. It is a tiny street full of residences.

I also know this family very well, No the dogs did not grow up on a farm around other animals. Don't know where you got that from. This is not the first time they were running around, the owners got fined 2 weeks prior for that. It's funny how that Sunday morning the owner had on her facebook about Izzy coming home covered in blood but acting fine, then when police informed her of what the dogs have done she removed her comments. Hmm and not to long ago she was arguing on another facebook page about her dog snapping at a child. Hmm innocent dogs, think not!! Get a grip on reality, the dogs were inside the blood covered barn.... Yep another dog killed them....are you serious?!?!

I have a american pitbull and he's now 6. He's like my son. Let me just tell you ignorant people something, my dog got the taste for blood 2 times after taking a bite of people who broke in my house at south end and saving my life. He's never human aggressive ever until those points. Well because of this thing with the sheep all pits are looking bad rite now. My dog got out of my yard Monday and saw a puppy ran up to it got a little rough now he's in danger of getting put down. He's still at the spca they impounded him. my poor baby might get killed an the guy who threw rocks at him had nothing done to him. They are making an example of my dog now because he got out at the wrong time. I can't stand anyone who blames the breed blame your stupidity. If this was a lassie dog this wouldn't even be talked about let's face it. Now thanks to people like you I have to find a new home for my dog and explain to my son that the dog who is a month older then him who he grew up with will never come home again! Think before you put down the breed!!!!

I read the initial artical concerning these dogs as officials were looking for the 2nd one.
Kudos to the farmers son for taking care of business.
Thankfully no children were in the immediate area or this story may have had a different title.
I hpoe the dogs owner is handed a steep fine for the damage to the farmers property, time spent by law enforcement searching for the dog and letting the dogs run wild.
FYI: the owner of the dog was fined by it was waived so that she could pay the sheep owners some money....but she has done nothing to help them...also she recently got two more pitbull puppies!!! how wrong is that???

FYI, owner of the dog rec'd a fine but it was waived so the she could help out the farmer with expenses. But, the farmer has not seen a dime. Also, the dog owner recently got two more pitbull puppies so, I suppose the farmer will have to go out of business. As far as we know the second dog is still alive at the Washington Co SPCA. never Put down.

OH no! don't you know the dogs just happen to stop by during the attack to just watch...atleast that is what the dog owner thinks in her mind...oh thats right I don't think she has a mind...I am hoping the sheep owners sue her, she may not have anything now, but she won't have anything when they are done!!!
