I read the initial artical concerning these dogs as officials were looking for the 2nd one.

Kudos to the farmers son for taking care of business.
Thankfully no children were in the immediate area or this story may have had a different title.
I hpoe the dogs owner is handed a steep fine for the damage to the farmers property, time spent by law enforcement searching for the dog and letting the dogs run wild.

Only one thing to do with a sheep mauler and killer. The dog cannot be trusted if it's chasing people & killing livestock. Restitution is due the farmer for loss & damage.

The dog should be put down & the owners should receive a significant fine plus damages to the farmer's property. I have owned animals most of my life & have always been responsible with the animal, but many pet owners are not.

Irresponible owners give these dogs their bad name!! Terriers were bred with hunting instints it does not make them bad dogs. Just like a cat is not a bad cat for hunting down its prey. It's natural. It's the owners fault not the dogs or the breed of dog. As for chasing the farmer, there could be many factors in that, one protecting their food they found! Or have been trained all the wrong things. Bad owners/bad dogs!

But on that note Pit Bull is a generic term from many dogs. Hope these dogs are not being mislabled.
Most people don't know when they are looking a pit bull here is an example

http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findp...

People think my one dog is a pit bull when he is not! He is a Patterdale! My dog that is a pit bull is also a service dog and some people think it's a mastiff!!

Glad to see people are not judging all pit bull types as a whole but the individual dogs!!

Most pits are good dogs. Unfortunately, few owners are worthy of the dog. Those owners are the problem. They buy into media portraying the pit as a 'tough guy' status symbol, and want the dog to make them what they are not on their own. When the dog becomes the master, regardless of breed, no good will come.

No it is people like you that give pit bulls their bad names!! you people commenting on this do not even know the story and you do not know the owners so you have no right putting down the owners because you have no place and no right what so ever! i personally know the owners and i have been around both of these "viscous" pit bulls! and they are not dangerous dogs at all! we have a a 2 month old child around the one that got shot and all he did was lick her little head.. sorry but that is not viscous!! so get your facts start before you start running mouths!!

Are you blind or just plain stupid the dogs atacked and killed another animal,(vicious=Causing harm or injury)Twelve sheep were killed and eight were injured,I Think that fits the term Vicious! Not Viscous. The owners are responsible for the damage caused to the farmer and his sheep and the dogs do need to be put down. Once a dog taste blood it will crave it again. Not all Pitts are bad, but the ones that do turn need to be delt with accordingly! Hagerstown has become over run with careless Pitt owners. and its a shame, most of them should not even own a pet. But if they do not keep the dog under proper supervision or containment and training, then they have to pay the penalty. The dog being sweet around kids is one thing but being visicous around other animals is another. Your friends, the owners of the dogs got careless now they have to pay and they also just raised the bar against Pitbulls because they got careless. If you want to own a Pitbull then you should have to go thru training in the care and protection of the animal. Not just get one because a friends dog just had a bunch of puppies and you want one.

Yea that's what every victims parent said! I've seen cases where pits have mauled out eyes and tounges! To put it simple these dogs should not be around children or other animals. When something inside them snaps, its all over! Stupid iggorance for allowing these dominant dogs around children!!!

Are they even sure that they are pits? I always have people mistake my two dogs for Pitt bulls. People don't have a clue! One is a boxer and my 110 lbs male is a Cane Corso!

Sounds like the neighbors disagree with your assessment: http://your4state.com/fulltext/...

Responsible owners do NOT let their animals, NONE of their animals, friendly or otherwise, run loose to annoy others and destroy property.

Focus. Not mentioned in the "comments." The dog ALSO chased a human! My thinking is the farmer being chased might have been very fortunate to have eluded the dog or he might have had serious problems. Like the sheep? This dog should be "put down" for being agressive. Not all "Pits" show this behavious but when any animal will kill stalk (hunt) and kill sheel or other animals then chase a human, that is another story.

I have a pit bull that is 13 years old. I have never had any problem with her. She is very well behaved, loves other animals, has been around kids since her birth. On the other hand I have a pug mix, she jumps the fence all time, not real good around new animals and isn't good with kids. I would rather have a pit anyday then another breed that I can't trust. When a dog is hungry or mistreated it will attack. It doesn't matter if it's a large dog or small dog. Of course when a pit attack it's reported but when different breed attacks there is nothing about it in the news. I know of a shephard mix that attacked and killed a couple of sheeps and goats up near St. Thomas, didn't read anything about it in the news.

The irresponsible owner who failed to keep the two dogs under control will pay for the sheep killed by the dogs. The owner has no wiggle room--he pays.

This is tragic no matter how you look at it. The farmer lost sheep and suffered damages and the owners should pay for their irresponsibility. However, this could have been any other breed and we wouldn't have heard or seen hyde or hair about this story. Another article that will further damage the already horrible reputation of these wonderful dogs. There are only bad owners... not bad dogs.

Exactly, not unlike bad kids whose parents stand behind them saying they'd never do anything wrong. It seems there are two types of pit owners. Ones who train them to be gentle and others who laugh when they are told their heathens just killed 12 sheep. Like fish in a barrel. I'd be a little more sympathetic if this dude would have gotten upset or even slightly rattled. He appears to not have any remorse. That indicates he really did not care that his animals killed someone else's cause he most likely at some point watched the dogs in action or knew they were capable of doing so. And, yes they can be very friendly and gentle with little kids and around their master in the house. Just like kids act all innocent in front of their parents.

Somewhere, somehow, these dogs got the nod from their owner that it was ok to mutilate another animal. Unfortunately it happened to be this poor farmer's sheep. He should have a load of buckshot in his ass just like his dog and my money is on the fact that the poor farmer will get no retribution from this jack wagon because he most likely doesn't have two nickels to rub together much less pay for 20 sheep!!!

you people are just plain stupid!! watch the news again today! no one laughed! & the bitch lady across the road who says that she got chased up the road is a straight up liar! the dogs have never chased anyone nor for the matter have never attacked anyone! so before you commenting on something make sure you know that facts.. the boy talking on the news is not the owner the news only shows what it wants to show not what everyone needs to see.. yea the farmer lost sheep thats sad but there is no proof what so ever that these dogs did this horrible thing.. they were raised on a 137 acre farm! with cows, sheep, ducks, the whole nine yards.. when they prove that these dogs did this then that will be a different story! because there is NO proof!!
