If you want to endanger the welfare of children put them on a CDTA bus with kids going to and from school in the city of Albany..its awful..they will surely learn a lot of profanity and lessons how not to behave..

This is an example of too much government and the loss of individual rights. Government is now telling how to raise our kids, what to eat (outlawing saturated fats), how much we should weigth, etc. This is government driven by the liberal press towards socialism.

I really hate to sound like I am siding against homeschoolers, but in this case it seems like most people are making far too much of this.

The article I read says that the parents were issued some sort of ticket, similar I guess, to the same thing a public school kids parent would get for being truant. They didn't take the children away or force them to go to public school. From what I've read.

I also read that the parents DID know that they were suppose to turn in paper work.

Look. You don't have to agree with the laws. You do however, have to follow them.

If you do not like or agree with a certain law, you are free to try to get it changed. The legal way. Homeschoolers have access to excellent representation and plenty of support. Any time some one takes it upon themselves to make some sort of statement "for" homeschool by not following the law it sets us all back and makes us all look bad.

Please stop, people. Follow the rules...or get them changed. You have the power to do that. It has been done before and by people with far fewer resources and support.

I wonder if this growing number of selp-proclaimed "homeschoolers" is the reason why the trailer trash population is grwoing, now this should be considered a state of emergency we don't want trailer people taking over the world they are poor and trashy!

Gee, that was stupid, now those kids really are endangered; Mr. Jon Law just arrested their parents (you know, the ones who provide the home and food).
it's common knowledge that home-schooled kids are ten times smarter than public schooled ones.
NY is very bad about interfering with families and rights.

Disregard my previous comment, I suffer from learning disabilities and the homecare worker doesn't come to my trailer until noon.
You must be another "homeschooled" victim, you poor thing..........I really don't know what to say except it sucks to be you. I am sure you are some drug addicted, alcoholic, trailer person, whose only means of income is the next person you steal from, what a pathetic sad little life, maybe your trailer will crumble to the ground on top of you or you could always overdose..........

It's not just grades, my parents never graded us. Home-schooled children are intelligent and no programmed like those going to public schools.

We're in "arrest mode" in this country.

I'll bet that, within one hour, I could find a meth lab or some other dangerous criminal enterprise in Montgomery County...Instead, the Sheriff's Dept. spends our money on this kind of nonsense.

Seriously, this is a family court issue, not a law enforcement issue.

Just another example of a justice system that has become an industry, rather than a public service.

What's next, locking up people for giving their kids too much candy? It's none of your f*%%ing business!

Kudos to Channel 13 for finally getting ALL of the facts and presenting them in a brief and well-crafted piece. When the story first broke, it came out in bits and pieces leaving people with opportunity to jump to false conclusions. Homeschoolers are sensitive - probably with good reason - as illustrated by Broadway Billy's comment. They seized the caused and used it to vent their frustrations. What followed was a nationwide outpouring of accusations, cries of Nazism, and even threats of God's wrath. Logic and civility dissolved in the fervor of righteous indignation. It's amazing that a simple, local story, poorly presented can create such a mess. For obvious reasons, media outlets are in a race to be the first with the news. But, in this day of near-instant worldwide communication, newspeople have an even greater responsibility to get it right the first time. One poorly presented story can potentially turn reasonable citizens into emotionally driven vigilantes. Thanks for a great job WNYT!
