Well, I agree that arresting them is harsh, however there was a law in that state that they were suppose to be following.

I home school my 3 kids and I have to follow the laws in my state. Why should they be above the law?

When people disregard the law , all they do is make the rest of us look bad.

I personally don't agree with many states laws concerning home school. I feel they put far too many restrictions on parents in some cases. That is why I don't live in any of those states. That is also why when a stupid bill is introduced in my state I spend hours emailing and calling people to support my stance. I do things the legal way because doing other wise makes me and everyone else in my situation look as if we have something to hide.
And if you ever read the claims of anti home schoolers you will see that a lot of them will say " a lot of people home school their kids so they can beat them and no one will know"
And as stupid as that is, some people believe it and those same people LOVE for us to slip up and go against the law because then we some how in their minds fit that idea they have of us.

I agree with Tom and would like to ask people to recall a recent lawsuit brought against NY State by a NYC group called: The Campaign For Fiscal Equity. They sought and received a judgment to provide more money for NYC public schools because a "sound basic education is a Constitutional right".
Tell me how can an education be a constitutional right if we are forced to engage in it against our will? The truth is, it is not a right and the establishment comes down on home schoolers because they are a threat. They cannot be indoctrinated like the rest of the sheep. The school district wants the media coverage of this to go away and that is why they have smoothed everything over. The court case will continue and they don't want any citizen advocates to interfere with the precedent they hope to set. This family should stand their ground and get some legal help.
