I think there are a lot of factors that played into this tradegy. I would like to know why in the world would D.T.E. let the bill get that high? I once had a shut-off notice for $168.00.(When I called to question it they said because I had always paid my bill on time that they were afraid I was gonna skip out and stick them with a bill.)And when the rep came to shut off the gas didn't they see children's toys or the children themselves? They could've called C.P.S. or something.
If these people had cell phones why would you go to the store to call for help? Even if it's a pre-paid cell phone without minutes you can still call 911.
Why would the grandmother leave and go to the store when she's supposed to be working? She is responsible for these kids. And it's clear whoever was in charge of the kerosene heater didn't know what the he** they were doing.
With all these factors it was a recipe for disaster and those poor babies died a horrible death.

Why couldn't one of the seven adults in this home make a token payment on the gas bill?

My friend who is an aquaintance of the family said Tosha loved her kids and would do anything for them.
They DID NOT have cable, or internet like some have stated. Just because she had a my space page doesn't mean they automatically have internet, she went to friends houses and used theirs.Tosha's mother did have a pre-paid cell phone with limited minutes on it. Tosha's dad was laid off like a lot of you out there and got his last unemployment check in Sept of 08 last time something was paid on the gas bill. They still had a house payment, electric bill, water bill, food. Their total income was about $1,000 a month. Her payment to the gas company was due Jan 31 but they shut it off before she could pay it. There is some adults that aren't working but come on would'nt you take in your family members who have ran into hard times?
The people who were there that night are devastated and keep playing the events over and over again to figure out if they could've done something different. Lets just pray for these 2 little darlings that they rest in peace.

Can you imagine what this winter has been like for those kids? Can you imagine how scared they were (not only that night, but just in general with that many deadbeat 'adults' in the house?)

It is the socialist aid programs that caused this. We should be ashamed of ourselves for creating this class of helpless people.
