My sister was working with one of the parents of the injured children at the time of the fire... everyone is hysterical right now.

We've got bankers stealing billions of our tax dollars and calling it a "bonus", and meanwhile these children die a horrific death because their family lacks the relative pittance required to heat a house.

Where are our priorities folks?

My sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the family, and my deepest sympathy! As a father of 2 young kids I cant imagine not having them around any more. When my dad recently passed away a couple of months ago I found the book of Psalms to be very comforting...just a thought.

maybe some of the big wigs should share some of their million $$$$ bonus checks to help the poor. this sickens me that families are dying due to lack of $$$ for proper ways to heat their homes, elderly freezing and children burning to death. am i the only one who sees this problem?

It makes me sick that the big wigs and executives waste lots of money, live it up big, and people struggle to get by with no heat. My thoughts and prayers to the family, neighbors, friends of the victims. I hope Cloverville and Fruitport step up to the plate. My gas bill is outrageous, the prices need to come down.

Not only are the big wigs taking money from the pot to which they should not; they are stealing homes from those who are not "truely" in foreclosure. No one is going after the banks. Not even in Western Michigan are charges being filed against the banks. A good example is 5/3 Bank and all their corrupt corporate employees.

May the children RIP. God be with all those who knew them.

This is so heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers go out to this family. I have a 2 year old and absolutely would not be able to deal with something so difficult. I agree whole-heartedly with the people on here dissing the the big wigs and the money that they don't need. I mean come one this should NOT have happened. I don't think it should be legal in anyway shape or form for a gas company to shut off someones gas or for the electric company to either, in the winter any way. This was preventable and so unfortunate.

In light of the horribly tragic nature of this event, please change the headline to use less casual language than "kids". The story refers to "children"; that strikes me as a more proper choice.

As I stated earlier this just breaks my heart, to learn now that this fire more than likely would not have happened if it werent for the only way they had to heat this home, how many people have to die this winter? this year? because we simply can't afford heat, and have to use other measures to heat the home or freeze to death because they can't afford the kerosene like the old, the young, my god you tell me these companies are going to "go under" because families cant afford their winter bills, how long are they going to be allowed to continue to shut the heat off on the old and the young just because they can't afford their outrageous heating bill. These are the companies that I blame for the deaths of these two young children.

The gas company needs to stop turning off the gas in the winter, there are laws and I hope they get sued. Maybe they could charge a bit more for gas, they need more money. Right!

Can't even deal with it.Don't understand?! No real reason for these tragedies, other than cold hearted millionaires. When will this suffering stop? When we decide to look out for each other. All of us. Usually its the poor who are willing to give whatever they have to make someone elses life better, even when what they have won't make a difference. Some one step up to the plate.

Where was the stimulus or bailout money? It figures only in America can elderly people freeze and children burn to death.
My prayers go out to this family.

This is horrible sad, and unnecessary. Poor little children. The family has no insurance, or so they said on the news story. Just absolutely uncalled for and heartbreaking.

What do we do?
