So sad for this family! It's too bad BCAL didn't investigate this daycare facility sooner. I can't imagine how it must feel to drop your kiddos off, go to work thinking everything's fine, and get a call that your child is dead. Very sad!

Wow that's so scary and sad! I feel horrible for the family and the daycare provider (if it is proven that nothing was wrong at the facility). That would be the most horrible thing for both parties.

Is it just me or is it weird that a person is by law allowed to watch 12 children at a time--heck I have trouble keeping an eye on my 3 grand children and I am not their day care provider....how does one person watch that many kids at one time??????Well I guess if one dies not very well

Sounds like closing the barn door after the horses are gone.

No where in the article does it say she is the only one caring for the children. There is a child to ratio law. Also, it did not say she had 12 children in the home, it just says the license was for 12 children.

What do you think a daycare center is? A licensed baby sitter ....

To be licensed for 12 children there has to be at least 2 adults. The most children a provider can watch on their own is 6, and there are other rules for the ages the children can be, etc.

In regards to not hearing about these cases years ago, I don't think they showed stuff like this on the news that long ago. Similar to school shootings, unfortunate incidents like this have occurred for as long as we've been on this earth, I'm sure. We've just never been as connected to one another as we are now.

My thoughts and prayers are with both families.

Even if nothing is found wrong at the Daycare, I doubt it will ever be business as usual again. They may need to change the name and relocate to get back into operation. People remember names and associations, rather than final judgements and acquittals.

I highly doubt that. The number of incidents such as these has risen due to the fact that these days, nearly three quarters of mothers work outside the home, more than at any other time in history. That means that more kids are in daycare and there are more daycare centers than at any other time in history. Therefore the odds are greater that there will be more accidents and deaths at daycare centers.

it doesn't say how old then child was. It could be SIDS, and it just happened while the child was in someone elses care.
It said nothing was found wrong at the home. A autopsy is being preformed.

It might have nothing to do with the provider. This tradgedy may have just happened at her house instead of at the child's home.

My prayers go out to this family, the provider and other staff, and other families from the facility.

Hopefully the findings in this case won't be negligence on the daycare providers part, like the two year old that died recently at another daycare. It's always tragic when a child dies too soon, my prayers to the family.

While I agree that there is no information on how the child died, the state suspended the daycare's license (general procedure when something like this happens) and it may be revoked. While there may not have been anything found in the home that was apparent to have caused the death of this child, there most certainly were violations.

from the article:

"The investigation found violations of the Child Care Organizations Act and administrative rules regarding supervision, caregiver responsibilities, infant sleeping, and training. BCAL says they took
the action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of children. "

I am sorry that this has happened. It appears that the media is being careful not to lead viewers to place blame with the daycare provider at this early point, just as they have not released the name or age of the child. Maybe they learned from the last fiasco.

Just one piece of advice to WZZM13 readers, don't make judgements on this tradegy by this article. Obviously all the details have not been shared and as a friend to both innocent parties please do not make any assumptions or judgements. I'm really disappointed in WZZM for taking this negative spin on this tradegy. This is a tradegy for everyone involved and keeping them in your prayers is the most important issue. Losing a child at any age is difficult.
