I think this is a wonderful idea. It would bring so many new jobs to the area. This is exactly what michigan needs...more jobs :)

this is not a loaded Question, but do casinos take more out of the local community than they put in money wise. At one time I may have been agianst it but we really need the jobs.

What you want the casino to do is not only create jobs, but also have local contractors as well as bring in 'customers' from out-of-town to spur the economic cash flow.

These Indian "tribes" are getting way out of hand with their demands to place casinos everywhere.

This special treatment is rediculous and when the voters passed the legislation for casino gaming in Michigan...it was only supposed to be in select places and in limited numbers.

It seems the the only limits on this greed and insanity is non-existent.

I don't have any stats, but my impression is that the local people who frequent casinos are generally the people who can't afford to lose the money. That being said, the money they lose goes to the tribe (located up north) and not into the local economy. The majority of the jobs casinos create are not high paying careers with benefits. You can see that by looking around the current tribal casinos - Sault Ste. Marie, Manistee, etc.(Mt. Pleasant is an exception because there is also a university there.) We would be better off with a renaissance zone industrial park that creates real jobs.

(A side note that many people don't realize is that your tribal gambling habit funds the tribe's full-coverage health insurance and college tuition funds.)

As I posted elsewhere earlier, this sounds like an opportunity for Michigan residents without jobs to piddle away what little money they do have and then ask uncle Sam or Aunt Jess to prop up their mortgage because they are losing their home. Apparently things in Michigan are not as bad as they appear if people still have money to burn.
As far as stealing their land - how about we give Detroit and Flint back to them.

Casino's on established reservations by the US goverment before 1900 should be able to have casino's on them, but allowing tribes to buy land and put a casino on it is wrong. Jobs? Can you live on minimum wage, that is what my brother earned working at a casino. Look what has happened to the goverment agencies and the financial strain they are under in Minnasota helping the elderly and poor because of the money they spend at casinos.

The thing that gets me is that if casino's were so good for the econony why is it that Michigan has the second highest number of casino's (behind Nevada) and our economy is one of the worst? They bring more bad than good and suck money out of peoples pockets where they can't pay their mortgage, car loan, etc. which brings other businesses down.

they won't have gr fat cats to stop them with the likes of todd boersma, fearing loss of gr business clientele, so it'll probably happen in muskegon. maybe before bradley, who knows.

You'll also notice that they tend to build them *away* from their land. Is that just a coincidence or keen planning to keep the garbage away from their communities?
