"Last month, Tonya Warren asked a court for a protective injunction against her husband. A hearing was set for June 2."

Perhaps the judges and court clerks need to 'get a clue' about why people file for them. There should be slots reserved at all times for next-day or same-week hearings of that type.

My question would be, if she was so fearful of him, what was she doing at the bait shop? She would have been in violation of a protective order.
God Bless them....

Perhaps you missed this part of the story (see below) but an inventory would not be unusual in a divorce of a couple that owned a business.

**********
Isom said the man who did the shooting had threatened his wife, and she was afraid of him. But she went to their business with relatives to take inventory because the two were going through a divorce, Isom said. She notified law-enforcement officials, he said.

How damned selfish of him. Even if the two of them needed to go their separate ways, he should have considered the fact that they have a child! That poor kid will live with this trauma for the rest of his life.

I feel so bad for the small child that witnessed this crime, he or she will never forget this and will prob need major counseling to go on with his/her life. What a tragedy that he HAD to kill his wife, if like is so bad why not off yourself NOT other people around you. May she rest in piece and he rot in hell for this terrible senseless and selfish act

How violent and sad, and common. A permanent solution to a temporary problem once again. Anger and immediate action, take precedence over the 7 T,s
Take Time To Think Things Through Thoroughly.
What a difference a day can make, if only we can wait for it.
Prayers for the child.

There are slots reserved. The judge reviews the injunction paperwork on the same day and he/she can grant a temporary injunction that lasts until the hearing date is set. This is only granted though if the judge feels that the petitioner is in immediate danger. At the hearing date, the judge can either determine that the danger has passed (ie the petitioner cancels the whole thing because "the abuser loves me") or the judge will grant a permanent injunction.

Based on this article, it sounds like she DID get a temporary injunction, since it's stated that she took relatives with her AND she notified law enforcement that she was going.

With or without an injunction, she never should have been alone with him.

How would this help in this case? Injunctions only work if the person that you are getting one against follows the law.

This poor kid now has to live with the fact that his mother has been taken from him by his own father. Then the father cowardly kills himself. This child will grow up knowing that money meant more to his father than he did. Way to go Dad! My prayers are with this child and the family left behind to clean up this man's mess.

I'm sure there is more to the story than what is being reported. I find it difficult to believe that he shot her just because she was taking inventory in their store.

The sad part is the child will now have to grow up without parents. God be with this child.

I don't think that they were insinuating that he shot her "becasue she was taking inventory". Neighbors heard the arguing and the gun shots.

But this is how it should be. If we all had weapons strapped to our belts we could resolve thes domestic issues ourselves without ever involving the courts or law enforcement.

I'm going to guess that this dirt bag was another one of our precious "registered and responsible gun owners". Let's hear it for our well-regulated militia!

justice4all I have known this couple for years and niether one of them deserved what has happened. You people freely call others "dirt bags" "way to go dad" and know nothing of the people you talking about or whos feelings of their survivors you are crushing. And by the way when a real criminal walks in your house with a gun and you wave your anti gun rights papers at them let me know how that works for you "justice4all"

Before you go talking crap and putting your 2 cents in about everything, know the whole damn story. You don't know him or her or their child. Thats MY family and I know them, especially my uncle. Its a tragic loss but theres more then just what you see on tv, if you're a true american then you already know tv and newspapers blow crap out of proportion. Show some respect for the ENTIRE family both sides and the son. If you don't know them personally and the whole situation then keep your thoughts to yourself and gossipy fingers off your keyboard because I'm sure every family has alot more skeletons in their closet than just mine. Go take a look at you and your family before you put down anyone elses.

They issue injunctions the same day they are applied for. She had a "temporary injunction" that lasted until the hearing in June. At the hearing, both parties get to tell their story to the judge who will then decide to extend the injunction or not.

But the injunction allowed them to have contact reference their child or their business, so he was not violating it. Well, except for when he shot her, that would be a violation.

That's a valid question. But you cannot violate your own injunction. In order for her to be in violation, he would have had to get an injunction on her.

Injunctions are crap anyway. Most people who get them lie on the affidavit. Or get them as a means to remove the other person from their home "the easy way" or get the upper hand in child custody, or just to be a bitch.

The only thing they MAY protect you against is annoying visits and phone calls if the other party is afraid of getting arrested for a misdomenor.

If someone is going to do something like this, the injunciton is just a piece of paper.

Seriously? We are supposed to have some sort of compassion for HIM? He is a cowardly dirt bag who not only made his son fatherless, he took the boys mother along the way. I’m not sure who you are reserving the title “dirt bag” for, but he or she must be a real monster.

I’m pretty sure that my analysis of this American trend cannot possibly “crush” the feelings of the survivors any more than the cowardly shooter did. But of course, as with most gun apologists, despite the fact that this loser loaded a weapon, pointed it at a human being and pulled the trigger, it must somehow be my fault. Great logic!

And when one of your dirt bag gun-toters gets mad at you for something silly and decides to put a bullet in your head, let me know how that works out for you “opinion of male”!

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Capricorn

Mercury retrograde in your sign will cause some friction between you and other people during coming weeks. Matters that have been bubbling away in the background will come to the boil, forcing you to do something about them. Try not to overreact, nor to create a crisis out of something that's really very minor. You should also keep a strong sense of fair play and pay attention to every little detail.
