Rash of Murder-Suicides Has Many Wondering Why They Happen

Experts say it is hard to pin down exactly what motivates people to kill themselves after committing murder, though a handful of theories prevail.

The tragic numbers of murders followed by a completed suicide, aka murder-suicide is truly on the rise. Our budding non-profit organization; Community Awareness and Support Center;Support for ALL Who have been touched by murder-suicide.(long name-big undertaking!)has done its own study for the full year of 2008. We did as the VPC and collected news reports. What we know is that in 2008, there were 508 murder-suicides that we know of, 1082 Americans died, 100 of whom were children, another 89 were wounded and 9 of those were children. Finally, 284 children were left without parents in 2008 alone!
This works out to be one murder-suicide every 17 and 1/4 hours in America alone, that is now 10 per week. It used to be considered a rare event, now being called the new norm in the media!
We organized to do something about it but mostly for the survivors, the children who will need so much just to make it through life!

I have searched for news regarding last night's power outage without success. Does anyone know what happened?

Several years ago I lost my job and was caring for a disabled relative. I deperately searched for a job that would pay ENOUGH to cover our rent, food, transportation, medical expenses (I am a diabetic, have you priced diabetes medications, test strips, and decent food that would not cause my blood glucose levels to soar?) Cant do it on a minumum wage job or two. I was desperate enough to kill the both of us. I did not want my relative to live on the streets in Detroit. I was filled with anxiety and fear. The fear of winding up living on the streets was so over whelming that I felt that death would have been the better option. Can you put yourself in my shoes. I was not living a great life to begin with. But When I lost a job that paid a living wage ( I have an MBA) I could not face sleeping on the side walk. Don't Think shelters are an option. Have you visited one lately? I now work in one.

It's amazing that we refuse to recognize how our culture condones violence as a way to solve our problems. Murder-suicide is an application of violence to oneself and others as a way of dealing with life difficulties. We need to take a good look at ourselves to understand this issue, not just get into minds of the people who do it, as if there is something unique to them that led them to do such a thing.
