Status of illegal immigrants in Dare County unknown

The topic of illegal immigration was raised at a recent League of Women Voters Candidate Forum.

I don't think anyone wants to address how many illegal's that are here in Dare County and have driven down wages and draining Social Services. Just look around when you go to the grocery store how many are using food stamps and how many are in the E.R. that receive medicaid.

Everyone who employs an illegal alien is part of the problem. You may get a lower hourly rate on the front end, but you tax dollars are paying for food stamps, medicaid, etc on the back end. The real hourly rate you are paying them is higher. They do not contribute to the Social Security trust fund. The are competing unfairly because most workers are paying taxes, contributing to the Social Security trust fund, etc. The money they make escapes our economic system by being diverted to Mexico,and it stays there.

It is a issue that must be addressed in Washington.

I agree 1000%. Dare County Social Services is strained. I could work for min. wage under the table too, if I had food stamps, Medicaid, Heating Assistance, no payroll tax deductions, FICA, State, Federal etc... And I love the response from folks that well, the illegals are shopping here and buying groceries. Giess what- when they use food stamps, we are again paying for the taxes on those items. I have seen many at Food Lion and Harris Teeter, purchasing lean cut meats, brand name everything, and then if they go over the food stamps they have, roll out wads of 100 dollar bills! Go figure!

Update: My husband worked with a mexican guy (painting)for the last 7 or so months. Well, guess what, a private investigator (hired by this ladied family) contacted the company owner and this illegal was using an elderly ladies ss#, and she hasn't been able to get her ss check. He has done this to her and others in 7 other states. And yes, he lived w/his brother their girlfriends and many kids in Colington and rec'd Medicaid, food stamps, WIC etc..because the women had a couple of the kids in the US, albiet illegals, but the kids are now anchor babies..It is most certainly happening in Dare County. Folks need to get their heads out of the sand on this issue!!!!!!!!!! I am tired of paying outragous taxes for illegals.

The people in Oaxaca and other states in Mexico.... PRI, PRD (political groups) and the police and political figures (governor) spend their time ripping off their own government for as much as they can for close to 100 years. The drug lords control the majority of all police which in turn also commit almost all the worst crimes. They tell foreigners NOT TO COME TO THEM AND REPORT CRIMES because they have no intention of helping anyways.
The U.S. consulates can not help you if you get into trouble because they are threatened by the police. I have been here five years had cars stolen, been kidnapped, close friends murdered and this was all done with the help or by the MINISTERIAL PUBLICO (federal police)in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. They constantly extort people (foreigners, prey on old people and young alike). These people ar brought up to think this is O.K. For Esxample they have traditions here where.... If you want to have sex with a woman/girl (you do not know)or marry her, it is O.K. to kidnap her to do that. Another example is if you accidentally hit someone walking with your car it is normal to put it into reverse and then kill the person BECAUSE... you then only have to pay a lump sum to the family.. maybe 20,000 dollars as opposed to paying for the care for the person if they are crippled for life. The "murder" is then just called an accident.

In Mexico you are more likely to be kidnapped than in China. In 2004 Mexico takes the lead as kidnap capital of the world. In Puerto Escondido in Jan 2007 their was machine gun murder in ther streets and they found the "safe house" for kidnap victims, drugs, firearms, money just steps in front of the head judges office. They covered it all up because it's O.K. with the Governor.
The newspaper states that corruption is so deep and that everyone knows who is doing it that the whole town is scared. However no one can do anything for fear of being murdered.
What do you think people with such little value for life with no intentions of abiding the law are doing when, they technically do not exist in our society?.
Many have never followed laws in Mexico so why should you think they will in the U.S.

actually the issue is bigger than what can be solved at a local level. local law enforcement does not have the man power or resources to enforce immigration laws and INS will not come from their district office unless you have about 25 aliens detained or the alien is a felon. INS will deport any alien that is a felon or convicted of a violent crime. there is nothing wrong with imigration but i agree that illegal aliens should be arrested and deported. but as with everything else, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. if its something that you feel so passionate about, then call your chiefs and sheriff's and request action. they work for the public and will address what the public demands.

Their ethnicity is not the problem it's the illegal's that are the problem. Factually, majority of illegals are from Mexico. not my opinion. I have friends at Dare Co. Soc. Services they see it too, you tell me. Is it effecting you? Or do you employ illegals? And the B.S. of everyone 's ancestors were illegal is a joke, they didn't have free medical care, day care, food stamps. etc.. they gave birth at home if they could not afford a hospital, survived on very little and went through the proper channels to become citizens. I am about to die laffing to read all thses posts left by people regarding the OBX and you all (but 1 i think) don't even live in OBX. The illegial issue here is killing our local economy. There are hundreds (or more) local families who have lost thier jobs to the immigrants. These is an illegals dream place. Lots of construction trades and people who want to get rich and will pay them 1/4 of a locals wages. Have any of you called I.C.E to report illegals working for contractors, fish houses etc? They require YOU to prove they are illegal before they will even investigate. Are you all really fed up? I am tired of all the talking and ready to take action. Lets take a stand anyone ready? There are places like tulsa, OK, and countys in VA who have stood up and run them out. The residents made it happen. I am ready to make it happen here and take my beach back. Start making your own signs put them in your yard. Ask mcdonalds if the people working there are legal. Call the fish houses in wanchese and ask them. When you drive by a job site covered with them stop jot down the number call the number ask the owner of the company if they know it is illegal. Lets start showing up at town meetings and politician gatherings and demand action. You will see me there. I have had enough.
