Legally if you are employed and live in a state or county for a certain period of time you have to register your vehicle in that county and state. It is considered fraud if you don't and you can lose you license over it. I moved from one county to another and got pulled over one day and I still had my old address and tags in the other county and had to have all that transferred before court or they were going to suspend my license. Only time you can do that is if the vehicle is registered in another persons name and you drive it, kinda like a college student. You go to school in a different state and you parents own the vehicle it can stay in there state and the college student and drive the car with those tags.

I have family that has a address in another state and live in that state for 6 months so when they come back to their address here for the other 6 months they are perfectly legal. They also have their DL in this state.
