Why only post the names of some of the schools and not all of them. Don't they all deserve the recognition?

Test scores are silly. If you want kids to "rapidly improve" all you have to do is score the exam a little more generously. To pass an unnamed HS Regents exam a student must only score 40 out of 85 possible credits. That's less than 50 %. But guess what! Almost everyone passes. Grade it strictly by % and many schools would be "rapidly declining". What a joke.

How can all these schools perform so poorly when they waste countless hours teaching to the test? Wanna see our schools improve? First remove the board of regents. Next get rid of the teachers union, they don't care about the children anyway. Next, eliminate tenure and make teachers pay based on performance. Let's not stop there because the teaching methods are so convoluted it is amazing a child can learn anything. And finally, tell parents they have to pay attention to what their child is learning not just what sport they are in. And bring discipline back into the schools.

I would suggest starting with the latter. Many parents are clueless as to what is expected of the child. "My child told me... he didn't get homework / he didn't have a book / he is doing very well." Why don't parents ask to see tests, quizzes and home work assignments. Kids really do get them. Just asking them about and reviewing the material with your kid will improve his or her performance. Letting them know what is and is not acceptable as far as grades is important too. As far as discipline - the hands of teachers and administrators is tied by parents and the general public. Just look at the outcry that comes when a student is disciplined for breaking a school rule (ie playing a concert on the roof / doing 'harmless' pranks etc.)

Maybe it is the child who is performing poorly and not the school. And the child doesn't care.

first of all, elementary students take regents exams beginning is 3rd grade. Teachers are not allowed to teach to the test.We prepare them for what they need to know to pass the test, but are not allowed to teach to the test. If your district is doing that, then they are not following NYS regulations.
REmoving tenure and paying teachers based on performance is wrong. I teach special education students who will always struggle. Most of them will never pass the test, not because I have failed them, but because they haveve circumstances that prevent them from being capable of passing a regents exam. Even with test mods they struggle. Not only special ed. students have circumstances that cause them tohave difficulty. Home life and parental support/assistance is a huge factor! It is not a teachers fault that some children simply do not "get it" and will struggle throughout life. To base a teachers pay on that is ridiculous.

And your thinking is exactly why you are a farmer and not in a professional field! Farmers know nothing about what goes on in a classroom. Go plow your field and milk the cows.

Teacher, nice response but doesn't quite make it. I will talk about it again maybe tomorrow.
For Wassup and Yessiree, for your info, farming is a professional field. Maybe you could try it? According to MSN farmers are raking in big bucks. Before you do I would recommend you get a degree first. Colleges like Alfred State or Cornell are great. I would recommend making sure you take courses in math, physics, economics, and chemistry not to mention plant physiology, soils, animal husbandry, genetics, and a slew of other ag related courses. See you in four years when you are done and paying for your courses. Trying to farm without an education (college) is like trying to be a pilot without flight school. You may be able to start the plane but good luck getting it off the ground.
