Police: Fridley High School teacher assaulted student

Police arrested a Fridley High School teacher this morning for allegedly leaving a 15-year-old student with scrapes and scratches on his face and a bump on his head.

I couldn't imagine being a teacher in this day and age. I bet the kid got what he deserved.

The students and parents are running the show.

I had a principal who was only interested in his own backside. He NEVER backed his teachers. That is why I retired, too many thugs out there and no accountability. The social workers want to give these kids some milk and cookies. When we tried to hold the child accountable, we were told we weren't connecting to the child. BS, the parents need to take some responsibility.

Bet the kid started it,he was already in the principal's office, probably some kid with "behavior issue" who ran out of meds. These kids don't need meds, they need parenting, the old fashioned kind. Now a teacher's career is probably over.

The little brat had it coming. It seems that it is acceptable to be disrespectful to teachers. Parents come into our school and are very disrespectful to staff, so the kids treat staff like their parents treat staff.

The kid should have gotten this message a long time ago.

I say give this teacher a pay raise for a job well done!

What they NEED to do is bring that paddle with the little holes in it back to the school, beginning in elementary!! I told my kids if there'd be a pettition to bring back the paddle, I'd be the first to sign!!

When I went to school I got pulled from a chair and thrown to the chair by my science teacher. He was in charge and he let me know it. I am sure I deserved it.
A teacher friend of mine says "If you can't discipline, you can't teach."

I love all the people on this thread saying that the kid deserved what he got, and that you are supporting the teacher hitting the kid. If the situation were reversed, say, your kid went to school and told a teacher that you hit him, the teacher would contact a social worker, the social worker would contact child protection and the police. You would be in one hell of a lot of hot water for disciplining your own kid, but, it's ok with you that a teacher hits a kid. Love it.

I just think kids got way out of control because they have no fear of authority, because they're given to many rights and parents or adults in general I should say fear of getting reprimanded so therefore the kids go on thinking it's ok and then move to worse. The reason this wouldn't happen much back in the good old days was because of that paddle that hung in the Principals office and they need to bring it back. If my kids disrespect an adult I WILL GET physical and if they call CPS the consequences are on them. See many don't realize that the child gets hauled away as well and placed in a home, the parent could get bailed out and then be free..where does that leave the child??? HHm the parent will then have to take 'anger' management classes and 'parenting' courses. If my kid calls and those would be my options to get him/her back him, I'd say SCREW them, they made 'their bed' If they do not like my rules and my home then they NEED NOT TO BE THERE!!!

Discipline is one thing, assault is another. The teacher assaulted the kid, he did not discipline him.

Back in the 60's I was often disciplined with a variety of means. I was paddled, punched, thrown and pushed around. Not once did I complain to my parents or it would have happened again at home. I went to both Catholic and public schools and I faced the wrath of priests, nuns, and football coaches teaching math. Never did I think I didn't deserve the punishment. I made it through school and have avoided jail despite being a juvenile deliquent. Today kids like me drop out of school because nobody can hold them accountable. Its a shame teachers are denied the means to do what they did to me. No wonder society is out of control!

Parents should be able to discipline their kids, but the fact is many parents are afraid to, and they shouldn't be. The teacher assaulted the kid, he didn't discipline him. I'll grant you the whole story isn't here, it doesn't say why the kid was even brought to the principal's office, only that the teacher and the student were alone in the office. Nobody knows what really happend, or why, the information isn't there. That said, it still isn't ok for a teacher to hit a kid, some may disagree, that's ok, but I would not put up with it. I am not ok with somebody hitting my kid.
