This is a great day for Orange County! Cook's vision will be given a chance to evolve and the greedy developers who want instant profits are now out of the picture. The casino is just part of the equation for the resorts - I think in time we will all laud Bill Cook for his preservation efforts and his vision. Best news I've heard all week...
Again.....Cook & Lauth were 50/50 partners in this venture. Without LAUTH the new construction would have been a disaster. Just how do you "Cooklovers" think the Casino would have been finished on time??? Ignorance is bliss!!!

Work one day in my shoes before you go singing the praises of Lauth. Oh and yes, I'm your typical French Lick idiot, I don't know what money is and who's getting paid for what and who's lining who's pockets.{I hope you sense the sarcasm here}
And you're wrong, I don't work for Benchmark, Benchmark was the company that was hired to MANAGE the hotel/casino by LAUTH... Cook opposed the move to bring Benchmark in.
Lauth was the one who cut all the job, the hours and the benefits, Cook was the one fighting for it. Call it part of our "ignorance" if you will, but when Lauth's CEO comes in the Casino and throws a shit fit and makes an ass of himself telling all us "po-dunk rednecks" how he can buy and sell our asses, and Mr. Cook and his people come in and show us the utmost respect, see who you'd be wanting to get the place.
I never mentioned anything about an "idiot". Work a day in your shoes??? I would love to. After working on the construction team during the project that would be an easy day for me! Does Bill Cook sign your paycheck? I believe it's written by Benchmark. Also, you must have mistaken Bob Lauth from someone else, Jerry Denbo maybe? Bob has far too much class to act in such a manner.

Yeah, Bob Lauth is a class act who deserved a gold polished halo, right?

No, Jerry Denbo is a great guy. Not only have I dealt with him almost daily at the Casino, but even before all this, he was more than willing to help out a disabled relative of mine who was getting the run around from Disability and Social Security.
Yeah, my check is written by Benchmark, but the money from it isn't coming out of their pocket.

Any way it goes, Lauth is gone, Cook's got the place, and Benchmark's contract is 'supposedly' up June 16.

And as far as class goes, I don't know who the guy was, he identified himself with a Lauth properties ID, a French Lick ID and tried to throw his weight around when he wasn't allowed to exit the building with an alcoholic beverage. That's a state law, but apparently we're all just a bunch of redneck inbreds who don't know who our "betters" are.(And yes, I witnessed a good majority of this transpire before I got disgusted and left.)

From someone who survived working on the construction team, I can honestly say I am glad to see this dispute put to bed. I'm sure the others on my team feel the same way. We sacrificed over a year of our personal lives living in a town where we weren't wanted. Unfortunately the local residents were not privy to the actual facts surrounding the new construction. All they could think about was how great "Cook" is. They need to remember it took both the Cook and Lauth companies to successfully accomplish the rebirth of French Lick. The orange shirts took up a petition to run Lauth out of town mid-way thru the project. If Lauth had tried such a stunt their employees would have been arrested! The Lauth Construction Team should be recognized for keeping their noses to the grindstone, after all it was this group of experts who stayed focused to make sure the Casino was open on time. We stuck together and didn't run with our tails between our legs when the going got tough. Great Job Lauth!
Interesting post, thanks for the information.

I don't doubt Jerry is a good dude. He isn't afraid to cause a spectical either. I personally witnessed him causing a scene in the buffet because they wouldn't let him and 3 others have their meals comp'd. He also threw a huge temper tantrum in my front yard when I wouldn't let him put his "vote for me" sign in my yard last October. Also, one important thing to remember is Jerry voted in favor of putting slot machines in the horse tracks (votes are always published in the Star). Ask your good friend what lobbyist lined his pocket in exchange for that vote!

Sounds like Jane Doe is Mrs. Lauth. From the beginning it appeared that the Cooks and Bob Lauth had very different objectives. It is a wonder they got along long enough to get done what they have.

I don't know Mr. Lauth personally but have heard that he is a very hard nosed businessman with his eye tightly trained on making money--nothing wrong with that if it is done honestly.

I have a great deal of respect for the Cooks who have stepped forward and taken on a heavy load-not ju st in French Lick but in other Indiana situations. I wish we had more like them in Indiana.

As far as anyone tells me, lauth never put one dime of their own money in the project. I hear they peed off the entire town, most of the county and anyone who done business with them

I think Cook is doing a great thing, and I am happy to see him taking over completely. Walking through the French Lick resort you can just spot the battles that Cook lost to Lauth. For instance, while the pool itself is nice, the building it is inside has vinyl siding! It just sticks out from the grandeur of the rest of the hotel.
I like the train option. The thinking that "we have cars now" is part of the problem with why we have a gazillion miles of roads and melting polar ice caps. It is time to think outside the box we've sealed ourselves into, and a scenic rail trip to French Lick would be a great way to start.
Vinyl siding was a Cook thing, not Lauth.

No, we are far from "crowded" down here now.
We are all celebrating Cook buying Lauth out, it was like New Years Eve at the Casino when the employees learned of press release.
We're glad they're gone! Maybe now instead of Lauth's pockets getting lined, the community will actually start seeing some of what it was promised.
Until Cook is paid back their investment and the community will not see anything...maybe 20+years...Keep your day job.

Good point that you made. JERRY DENBO DID VOTE FOR THE 4000 SLOTS THAT WILL BE DIVIDED UP AT THE RACINOS.
Did the lobbyist's line his pocket to screw his own "orange shirt"? All I can say is that you don't need a name on an offshore banking account in the Cayman's. You only need to have a number. Jerry's made money by burning both ends of the candle but wouldn't you if you could? I love Indiana politics!

BTW, Benchmark is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!
Who the hell is going to eat Northern Italian food in West Baden's main eatery?
I just don't see many folks flying in from Sonoma do you?
I'll give Benchmark about a year and they're gone.
Oh, that new Pete Dye course, a waste of good pasture. Nothing like a Pete Dye goofyland to play on. They could have had a Tom Doak layout and they blew it! Nothing like a classless course at a classic hotel.

personaly i am glad to see that lauth is out and cook is in. it was lauth that hired benchmark to manage the resort and they was laying people off left and right to line their pockets. we were understaffed to begin with and thanks to lauths great management team we lost more people all for the sake of a dollar, they didnt even care if the guest wasnt recieving the attention that they payed for and deserved. now that cook is in control maybe things will finally get better for the guest and the workers.

just a note for those that don't know. the reason Lauth is selling out is because he went back on a deal he had with a construction group for the resort project and is now being taken to court by that construction group. real good and honest buisness person there huh. my hat goes off to mr. lauth for putting so many people out of a job after they put their faith in this project.
