Beautiful place; however, very hard getting there 2 lane winding roads. I'am afraid that when the racinos get on line they will eat your lunch.

We love French Lick..too bad it took a casino to get the money for restoration..but it is a beautiful relaxing place..great pools, golf, tennis, gardens, and much much more. Well worth the drive! A great getaway! And West Baden..a must see for all Hoosiers! Indiana history is better no where.

Glad Lauth is gone. Beautiful place. Get rid of the slots at the tracks before they begin. If the horsetracks can't make it without them, let them close. Horses can go to fertilizer. Horse people can get real jobs....

This is a great day for Orange County! Cook's vision will be given a chance to evolve and the greedy developers who want instant profits are now out of the picture. The casino is just part of the equation for the resorts - I think in time we will all laud Bill Cook for his preservation efforts and his vision. Best news I've heard all week...

I hope Mr. Cook the best of luck. He's done a beautiful job so far. I've been once and plan to go back. Thank you Mr. Cook.

My understanding is French Lick prospered in early 1900's due to rail service from the north. I wonder if the public would support something like that from Indy to French Lick.

I've made the drive about three times to the Lick. It is isnt bad down 37 and the two lane is only last part of it. But it sure would help to straighten some roads or make it easier to get there.

We went down for memorial day and stayed at French Lick, and visited West Baden. Simply awesome. West Baden is magnificent. We ate at Sinclair's in the West Baden Resort and it was very pricey, but very good. The remodeling at French Lick is also very nice. We had a great time. French Lick Winery is very good too.

I'll keep my hard-earned money. The house always wins or else there wouldn't be a house. And Mr. Cook already has a really big house.

French lick used to be a nice and quiet place for a vacation, but now with the gambling, and no doubt crowded conditions and traffic, no more. There are other fine places in Indiana to visit instead of going to this place anymore.

Well sure, I just meant that a scenic ride might help business. The first Indiana casinos sponsored "free" bus trips. But for FL, that would be a long ride. I'm just wondering if a touristy type train excursion might help the area.....

I think Cook is doing a great thing, and I am happy to see him taking over completely. Walking through the French Lick resort you can just spot the battles that Cook lost to Lauth. For instance, while the pool itself is nice, the building it is inside has vinyl siding! It just sticks out from the grandeur of the rest of the hotel.

I like the train option. The thinking that "we have cars now" is part of the problem with why we have a gazillion miles of roads and melting polar ice caps. It is time to think outside the box we've sealed ourselves into, and a scenic rail trip to French Lick would be a great way to start.

No, we are far from "crowded" down here now.

We are all celebrating Cook buying Lauth out, it was like New Years Eve at the Casino when the employees learned of press release.

We're glad they're gone! Maybe now instead of Lauth's pockets getting lined, the community will actually start seeing some of what it was promised.

You may have celebrated, but it only highlights your ignorance. You are simply an employee, and I'm quite sure that you have absolutely zero clue about what goes on behind the scenes. Yes, Bill Cook loves the area and wants to restore its beauty. Great. Good for him. I'm glad he's doing it. But do you really, for one second think that he's not getting paid out of this deal. I've got news for you...follow the green. Its always about the money. Cook is not rebuilding French Lick without making a dollar on the back side. Like I said...its great that he's doing it. But there are no "free lunches".

Being part of the project, I will tell you it's not Lauth who opted to put "vinyl siding" in the pool building..........

Dear Casino Worker: You must remember who actually BUILT the Casino you are working in. It was LAUTH, not Cook. You have the wrong idea about Lauth lining their pockets.......who do you think is lining their pockets now? You work for Benchmark Hospitality, not Cook so get it straight before talking negatively about Lauth who brought the Casino in on time.

From someone who survived working on the construction team, I can honestly say I am glad to see this dispute put to bed. I'm sure the others on my team feel the same way. We sacrificed over a year of our personal lives living in a town where we weren't wanted. Unfortunately the local residents were not privy to the actual facts surrounding the new construction. All they could think about was how great "Cook" is. They need to remember it took both the Cook and Lauth companies to successfully accomplish the rebirth of French Lick. The orange shirts took up a petition to run Lauth out of town mid-way thru the project. If Lauth had tried such a stunt their employees would have been arrested! The Lauth Construction Team should be recognized for keeping their noses to the grindstone, after all it was this group of experts who stayed focused to make sure the Casino was open on time. We stuck together and didn't run with our tails between our legs when the going got tough. Great Job Lauth!

Work one day in my shoes before you go singing the praises of Lauth. Oh and yes, I'm your typical French Lick idiot, I don't know what money is and who's getting paid for what and who's lining who's pockets.{I hope you sense the sarcasm here}
And you're wrong, I don't work for Benchmark, Benchmark was the company that was hired to MANAGE the hotel/casino by LAUTH... Cook opposed the move to bring Benchmark in.
Lauth was the one who cut all the job, the hours and the benefits, Cook was the one fighting for it. Call it part of our "ignorance" if you will, but when Lauth's CEO comes in the Casino and throws a shit fit and makes an ass of himself telling all us "po-dunk rednecks" how he can buy and sell our asses, and Mr. Cook and his people come in and show us the utmost respect, see who you'd be wanting to get the place.
