So, the woman is glanced over for a position that she probaby thought she was a shoo-in for with support from the Governor. She gets paid $191,000 in agreement for NOT to sue.. Hmmm. Definitely needs to be investigated especially since Ivy Tech is a state college therefore is subject to the open records that all public agencies are liable to abide by for a fair, open and honest process.

Does this mean she herself will contribute to the brain drain we hear each year at this time? By that, I mean this: will she herself be leaving the State with OUR taxpayer dollars?

The college board violated the open door law and voted for a president in closed session. Whether or not Ms. D'Amico was a good choice or not, the board should have been aware of this "sunshine" law. It is a shame that this good money ($191,000)will be wasted because the board did not follow the rules.
I believe that they reconvened and followed the procedure after being informed that the first vote was in violation of the law. Therefore, they really should not pay a severance to someone to circumvent a frivolous lawsuit. This is just plain ridiculous. The offer should be rescinded.

Carol D'Amico has shown her true colors by extorting Ivy Tech out of a year's salary and healthcare coverage. So much for that great love for the institution she said she had. What's the difference anyway, Ivy Tech will just raise tuition to pay Carol and the state legislators who are on the Ivy Tech feed lot.

I'd bet $100 to $1 that not more than two or three of the 28 posts above come from people who have ever met Ms. Damico or would know her if they saw her.

Sounds like she must have had a case or she wouldn't have gotten the payoff or buyout.

I'm beginning to think 95% of the Hoosiers posting on this forum are idiots.

What? She resigns, and they still give her a golden parachute? Good riddance to her, but just as glad I'm no longer stuck there with the good old (Republican) boys.

That is not enough for what she did for the people studying and working there. She should have gotten at least 3 years of salary and benefits.

I agree that the Indy Star needs to investigate as to why she threatened to sue Ivy Tech. She has been known to threaten and throw tantrums when she doesn't get her way, but why an institution such as this would succumb to her demands is intriguing. Perhaps there's more to the story, or maybe HER man Mitch promised some political (financial) pressure on the institution. The budget did include nearly 70 million dollars for downtown expansion, but it is much needed. There are over 15,000 students attending the small downtown campus, and they have been forced to expand to Lawrence and other satellite locations becuase they are simply out of room. While I have no problem bettering the community by putting my tax dollars towards expansion, I do have a problem giving in to bribery or simply shelling out over $200,000 (with benefits) to someone that 14 trustees deemed inappropriate (or insufficient) for this position. Help us, Indianapolis Star, as taxpayers to see that our dollars are making sense!
Your pathetic public education is showing. First of all the Star is not going to investigate anything. That presupposes journalistic abilities. No way. The problem is what every big organization is afflicted with. Oppressive laws about gender and race "equity." To compound the problem, we have "human resource" departments using the oppressive laws to cow the management of these organizations into caving in to threats by "protected classes" while feathering the "human resource" nest.
