Maybe, something can been done for the good with the money that we choose to gamble with. You shouldn't beg money from casinos for your kids. It isn't the casinos job to buy books for kids. Soon the people who can afford books will want theirs paid for also. See how it works?

See how it works? If I choose to gamble and I do once in a while, and I lose, let the winners help out where help is needed. For your information, I have never been to French Lick's Casino...and I have a son going to be a junior this year...I will pay for his books, because I can afford to gamble once in a while. I am not even in the district that they are helping, it's just great that someone or some organization is. It is our right to gamble if we want to.

IF you know anything about that area, you would not make stupid comments about the free text books, 3 or 4 students in the School in French Lick are below poverty income levels,

Morons, how long do you think it will be before that money is diverted to other more "necessary" projects? Welcome Dick Cheney as our new master, because he has been running the U. S. govt for damn near 40 years.

I pay 50% of my Marion County property taxes to IPS-- my kid goes to a Washington Twp. school, why can't I direct the money there?
Public schools are just discount private schools with all the fees levied these days. Either tax me and don't charge for the schoolbooks, or DON'T tax me, and I'll pay as she goes.
Can't wait to pull those levers in November...

Ok, as a casino employee and a parent of 2, noone has their hands out asking for the books to be payed for. Mr. Cook offered that as a way of helping out in a world where too many people have forgotten about helping out their fellow man. It is his way of using his money to help those who are going through hard times in a area that jobs where in short supply of, unlike some of you better than you snobs who wouldnt know what it means to help out another person.the way i see it for all those against Mr.Cook paying for school books, you used your money to pull the slots or at the gameing tables, now it is his money-- he can do with it as he wants, and if what he wants is to help out others that could use it..... then God Bless him and his family.

It doesn't make any sense having kids of the same socio-economic background in the same school. It shouldn't matter which school your money goes to, as a matter of fact it shouldn't go to any one particular school at all. You should pay your share for all school fees, books, and lunches. No parent should have to spend a dime on their kid from k-12 for school fees of any kind. As for being socialist? I sure hope so, it would be a lot better than the way it is now. I would vote for a socialist candidate and I teach my children to do the same.

Living off the charity of my hard working children while you sit in your retirement home complaining about how you are not appreciated! Do my kids a favor and die before your 65

Very nice point.
It must also be noted that all people who reside in indianapolis pay property taxes in one way or another.I rent and my landlord said that 5% to 8% of my rental amount is applied to property taxes that is charged to our property owner thus adjusted for yearly when a new lease is signed yearly.
I am a single father of three and last year book rental fee was $450.00."ouch".
