Mr. Ferguson doesn't need a new road to the airport. He needs to fire Joe Vezzoso. That man has been a wart on the ass of the French Lick Resort casino since he darkened their doorstep. It's a crying shame that the Cook group is disillusioned by the actions of a few morons that bring the whole place down. Dale Nachreiner, Chris Leininger, Brian Marsh, and Jay "Freund" in German must mean snake in the grass.

I agree, I am unsure why Mr. V and Tom Oconner were hired in the first place after the damage they did where they were last employeed. Neither have the listening skills or integrity to be successful managers.

Yes, it is a shame that such a nice place is being run by such an incompetent lot. At least the people in Evansville are happy to have gotten rid of their bad apple.

I couldnt agree more!! Joe V brought a director of operations from Evansville, Jean Stafford and Mr. Oconnor and Mr. Humphrey, all of which didnt know what they were doing in Evansville and are making a real mess of the french Lick resort. Joe V needs to go back where he came from. Joe V only gets along with the Cook group and any employees that he can run over. He only wants employees that are less than him and believe me, that is the bottom of the barrel!! He now has a director of operations that caused the Paoli country club to go bankrupt. There seems to be a connection between Joe v and bankrupcies. I just hope he doesnt do that to Mr. Cook's billions!!! Although, he seems to be working in that direction. It makes my heart hurt to hear about the incompetencies that are taking place at that beautiful resort since Joe V took over.

I hope he does too. He will get the same info just by talking to anyone from the community that is familiar with Joe V Joe V does not care about the community. He is all about making enough money to retire and getting back to Evansville. He stabbed his home town in the back so one can only imagine what he is doing to the orange county community. I have been told that he makes fun of orange county and the residents. It makes me very sad every time I hear it.

Well, what did I say? I just read the Evansville paper and Joe v and his convention visitors board are in trouble for spending 3 grand of the city's money on a christmas party!! I guess 2 grand was spent on alcohol!! I sure hope Mr. Cook sees what he is all about before he wastes any more of his money!

The complete lack of ethical upper management at FLSR/WBH will be the downfall of these 2 beautiful hotels if Cook Corporation doesn't wake up & do a little internal investigating. Going to work at this property every day was not a pleasant experience & only a chosen few earn a living wage. Time to ax the top tier of management & look for a people who know how to treat employees w/respect.

It is what Mr Cook wants! Management had made statements to employees that they did not want locals there. They have doubled their prices since they opened and went from a wonderful menu to one you could stop and get at Fast Eddie's Deli!! So, in my opinion, the astronomical prices is for the Cook Group to have great write-offs on their taxes! I was made to take a class and a test, to check identification right, and was fired for doing just that! Thank You Mr Ferguson, you're one hell of a man! Truth is, my assistant manager called another employee and myself a BITCH, and I called him a S.O.B., that was my ticket out the door. I've read articles in the paper, Mr Ferguson telling Orange County residents to "plant a flower, add some paint", do whatever you have to do, that the Resort had done enough. I have news for you Mr F., maybe they don't want to...maybe they've lost their money at the Casino, or maybe they are the ones who never wanted you there in the first place.. I advise HOSPITALITY education for you all!!!

I understand that upper management at the hotel and casino actually make fun of the local residents. I have been told that they have a "boys club" headed by Joe V----only woman in power is Connie Jackson and she is blind to the truth and just drops in there once in a while and believes what the boys club tells her. I hear that they have fired all of the honest and hard working employees. The majority of the ones left are push overs and yes men. Guests and high end casino players tell me that they cant even get anyone to respond to their calls or take care of them. I guess customer service sucks there really bad. They have gone downhill drastically in the past year. I fear that they will go under but I also agree that they are using it as a tax write off. Have any of you former employees ever thought about going to the labor board. A manager cant call an employee a bitch!! I understand that two employees in the accounting department got in a fist fight. A supervisor actually slugged one of her employees and nothing was done about it!! NO WORK ETHIC!!

I was hired at the Casino in 2008 and then transferred to the hotel because I refused to work a double on CHRISTMAS. I was then put into a different area to work because my body size was to big for their pool area bar. I've been scooping ice cream and serving pizza's for 2 1/2 years now. I finally decided to better myself and go to college. I chose a career that doesn't deal with food & beverage. After working for Tom O'Connor for years I wanted something different. I was told that when I'm finished with my Auto Technology career I might get a transfer to a golf course, because they contract out their work (not a need for a mechanic). They own several cars/vans. So this past week I was taken off the schedule because I'm a full time student and working part-time. Joe Vesso, Tom O'Connor, & Tim Humprey have no idea how to run a hotel. Look at their past records. ALL the employees come to work everyday and wonder why they still have a job. They run that hotel like a factory and not like a hotel with 5 star status.

How right you are!!!! Joe keeps bringing in people he has worked with at prior hotels and all of his priors were failures!!! Have you noticed that all of the better paid employees are from out of Orange County. Anybody that was from Orange County has been thrown out like garbage. They have no respect for the local residents. That should tell them something. I am shocked that Cook lets this go on when he is so successful. However, some of the people from Cook like Chuck Franz dont really appear to be qualified either. Chuck Franz and Jay Freund need to leave with Joe and try to work at something they are qualified to do. Not sure what that would be though!!

The French Lick Resort will never be a 5 star property. It is run by idiots on both sides of the operation (hotel/casino). If it weren't for the Cook groups money and clout it wouldn't have even been awarded AAA 5 Diamond status. The property is beautiful, the golf courses fabulous. The senior management team... deplorable.

I was at the property in 2009 and back towards the end of 2010. The customer service and senior management attitude has gone downhill drastically......That is not a good sign.

I am a 20 year hospitality manager at a large property in Chicago. I was at the Frnch Lick Resort in 2009 and was back there at the end of 2010. It seems to me that the customr service and attitudes of upper managment have deteriorated drastically. That is a sign that someone is making decisions that have a negative impact on the resort....sad

I worked at the hotel most of last year and was considered "front of the house" so I got to observe a lot from various angles. I interacted with guests on a regular basis, I dealt with upper and middle management a lot, and I worked with the everyday, down-to-earth employees.

My observation was that the regular employees of the hotel are very proud of the hotel they work in. When Mr. Cook took over the hotel, many of the long-time employees had to take classes on five-star service from what I understand. Likewise, seasonal hires are given a good idea of what is expected of them during orientation. They are told to go the extra mile to fulfill guests' requests. What many find while working with/for guests is that it is very fulfilling and satisfying to make a guest happy -- especially if they weren't expecting that level of service.

I also observed upper management butting heads with guests. I should clarify that that is a general statement, which isn't fair to some of the management. While I can understand fending off completely unreasonable requests and guests who do more harm than good to/for the property and its reputation, I don't see the problem with fulfilling small, out-of-the-ordinary requests now and then. I also don't see the harm in letting local people treat their own visitors to the beauty of the FL/WB properties.(Free advertising!)

Instead of allowing their employees to enjoy the work they do and fulfill the request of their guests efficiently, management has rules like "you can't have overtime, but you can't work part time either." They often make employees work double shifts from venue to venue with little to no training because "flexibility" is more important than confidence in what you do. Employees are exhausted and frustrated and often end up looking like they don't know what they're doing in front of guests and sometimes even management themselves.

When employees try to express these issues, there is no give-and-take or even acknowledgement from the upper management. Sometimes, instead of trying to fix issues that are brought up, upper management points at middle management and blames them for things that go wrong. It does no good for employees to communicate with human resources, because upper management has loopholes in the company policy that they can use "according to the needs" of the establishment.

In my experience, the employees of the hotel - particularly those who have worked there since before Cook took over, and perhaps with the training that came with him - are the best around. They are very professional and accommodating, and they are extremely grateful for all of the GOOD things that Mr. Cook and the company have given them (including a better hotel, improvements to the town, and great benefits). I was proud and happy to work with them, and to give guests a very pleasurable experience while at the FL Hotel.

If Mr. Cook or Mr. Ferguson would like to know why guest satisfaction is going down, they need to keep a closer eye on Tom O'Connor and Joe V. and how they handle these employees that, frankly, they are lucky to still have.

Couldnt agree with you more. Joe V is abusive to the good employees and actually tends to want them out of the way as if he feels threatened by them. He has gotten rid of many many excellent employees and that is part of the reason for the decline in customer service. He doesnt care if the employees do a good job, he only wants them to not rock the boat and view him as "the king". Tom Oconnor is one of his followers just as is Dean Blackburn and Denise Duke. They dont do their jobs and quite frankly probably dont know how to do their jobs. However, they dont rock the boat and pretend like Joe is king..... HR is definitely not someone you can count on. Some of the old time employees in HR could do a better job if Connie Jackson and Jay Freund werent forcing them to do it "the Cook way". Employment here at the resort is based on if Connie, Jay, and Joe V "like you". They dont care if you do a good job or not.

How can these people who can best be summed up as "monumental failures" continue to thrive and survive, while the good employees are continuosly run out by the revolving door employment policy? Obviously there are a lot of voices that are trying to be heard. I hope when Carl follows his father's legacy he bounces Joe V. out on his ear. RIP Mr.Cook, you will not be forgotten.

Yes, I hope Carl bounces him out on his behind too but Carl is awful patient and kind. I understand Steve Ferguson is going to be running the resort and he has put up with Joe v's abusive management style all this time so I doubt it will change. Joe V doesnt are about the community at all and admited his heart was in Evansville. I actually attended a meeting where he told the employees they shouldnt be promoting the community because the guests need to stay in the hotel and spend their money. Joe V needs to be kicked out of the hote and the community!!
If he didnt have Mr. Cook's money, he would have bankrupt this resort just like all the others he has managed. He was even spending money from the town of Evansville that he shouldnt have been spending. He is unethical at the least.

I guess now Joe V is in trouble for some of the alleged criminal conduct of the Jesters. I had no idea this was as bad as child porn and prostitutes. It looks like they have a person with no morals running the French Lick REsort. It is a crying shame.
