I love when they say it's safe for it's size. As for the average per Capita Income, I'll be willing to bet it's right near the top as far as Crime goes...Share all the figures.

I would like to know how it is the government's and Police Department's job to raise these kids? As Sergio the so called reformed gang member said.

God, I did'nt know what a gang was 20 years ago. It was kind of like the Farmingdale gang , or the Plainedge gang , and we threw an egg at someone and ran.

In case you were wondering, the gangs are all not compiled of illegal immigrants. Though, the last few years, their numbers have increased tremendously because of the stupidity of the so called "government" who refuses to send the illegals home where they belong. The problem being is that there are way more people in gangs than there are law enforcement. The cops try to control them but the sizes just keep increasing. If these kids in gangs could get a good education and be able to have the advantages to leave the streets believe me, they would. It is a last resort. As for the illegals? I have no answer. Until this government can figure out a way to send them home all at once or make them legal so they could pay taxes like everyone else, we will be stuck on the same roller coaster. I'm just thankful that I got out of Long Island long enough to realize how lucky I am not to be there. With the rising oil prices, people will be killing each other this winter just to keep themselves warm. Good luck.

It is in the politicians interests to support these people. As well as in the interests of "Business leaders" like the people who run newsday. They are selling out our country and support these kinds of people over real Americans. What they really want is obedient citizens/workers. That's why they are supporting the mass migration from S. America

Violent crime is extremely prevalent in certain cities more than others! Further south of Jefferson County in eastern Wisconsin where I live-particularly inside of Chicago-along with Baltimore, Detroit and St Louis, gang violence is spreading rapidly and homicides are out of control and becoming steadily worse!

I had a woman STEAL a bathing suit, she shoved it in with the other bargains because she said she wanted it for free because she had already spent $13.00 on a garbage bag full of clothes that cost me over $150.00... Well what do you expect?
They kill, which permanently removes that person from this planet and all they get is 20 years.
I know, I know. 20 years to life.
They'll be out in 20.
Why weren't they sentenced to forever to life?
20 years for killing someone.
No wonder their not afraid to kill.

Jail??? Jail is just another place for these gang members to become stronger and to enjoy cable tv at the expence of the people trying just to live and raise a family in the area.
These gang members and all other criminals need to know that if they continue their course of life that there is something worse in their futures; whatever happened to their victims should happen to them!

What kind of an uneducated low life stupid head would join a gang? Let's round them up and drop them in shark infested water. We don't need their kind messing up our neighborhoods.

About your opinion of "All young men 18-22, who are not in college, will be placed in a US Military Service", that's a bad idea! I don't need to be second guessing my fellow Marine, Sailor, Soldier, or Airman's actions of being a former gang member or street thug while servicing-defending our glorious nation down range. Once a bad apple, always a bad apple. Criminal's don't belong in the Armed Service!

He's an idea... let's give them a desk, telephone, and a computer right next to your cubicle or office. Hey, it's getting them off the street, right!

Very sad. Sure they kill each other but I don't want that garbage coming over here tomy community. Our government let's this crap in, close the border now.
Why is it that all the good kids want to be "hip-hop" producers. Can't they strive to do something that's productive and has a real purpose?
My idea: All young men 18-22, who are not in college, will be placed in a US Military Service. They will get a GED if they require a HS diploma. They will work in areas of the country that need relief (fighting brush fires in CA, Rebuilding in New Orleans etc.... Finally they will learn to respect this great country that allowded them or their families in to escape poverty and misery in some third world country. Make them aspire to help make america a better place and no tresemble the crap they came from!!!!!!

Stop being such specists! Monkeys are born to roam in packs/gangs. They can't help it. It's genetic. Try to be understanding!
The real problem here is the libtards that insists on letting wild animals roam free amongst humans. Put them back in their natural preserves where they would feel more comfortable. Jail the stupid libtards for forcing unnatural conditions upon these poor monkeys.
Libtards? You sound like a bright one. How quick you are to forget how much George Bush was pushing for the amnesty program not that long ago how disapointed he was that it did not pass.

Gangs well I see a lot of folks don't know why these young teens join. As the story told, one of them hung out with an older guy to feel accepted. The point is the youth have no where to go. Little leauge, PBA clubs, youth centers and a host of activities for young people are not common anymore in poor or middles class neighborhoods. Money that was use to fund these activities are now being spend on wars and corruptions. So where do the young go for activities, gangs.
There were centers that gave youths some directions and taught them to respect others. There were good people involved in youth organizations until the money dried up and they had to seek other employment. Sure we can blame the single parents homes and absentees fathers but back in the day there was something to filled the void where you did not have to feel like an outsider. Youth programs is needed and if we do not want to believe it then anyone of us can be the next target for gang memebership.
