Dave you are incorrect about how the law is applied. Any teacher caught having sexual relations with any 17 yr old would be charged, does not matter if the teacher has the student in his class or not.I think the sentence is ridiculous. She has already lost her job/career. Now she has to register as a sex offender and let's charge her 5 grand too. I presume we are referencing a 17 year old consenting boy/man. The age of consent is 17 in Illinois unless with an adult who is in a fiduciary position. If she wasn't his teacher then it wasn't a fiduciary relationship. Four days before he turned 18...Ridiculous waste of time and money. Seems just as silly as mandatory minimum drug sentences.
