Past Player, good comments. I have to dis-agree to some point. If you are a past player you know how he operates. He picks someone, and thats it.

He wouldn't try something new if his life depended on it.

I like what he said in the news democrate, moving players to different positions. That sounds promising.

Everyone his a coach, but sometimes fans have good ideas to. I wish as a fan, he would have an open mind. He would earn us back.

I agree with him picking one player and sticking with them. Even when I played we had a good team and that was the case. But we also didnt have much depth after the starters anyways. I think the kids now need to step up and play. Trust me if a kid shows that he can step up in practice, he will eventually get a shot in a game. And nothing makes more of a statement in practice than a kid who starts making plays against the starters. Its easy for those kids who dont play to get down on themselves and not try but if they put in the effort they will play, especially with the kids they have now.

past player, I have to dis-agree with your point. He won't give a player a shot. Take for example last year. The game is out of reach, he didn't try anyone.

The players start lets say 3 series of plays. Say someone isn't playing that good. He don't yank them for one play, and get their attitude right. If you played, I think you understand what I'm trying to say.

The practices this coach implements, does not give a player a shot. If you played for him you know that.

I agree that some positions their is no depth, but where their is its hard ti crack the line up.

Good comments can't wait to here your response. Positive feedback, I like it.

Concerned, You are absolutely correct. In any game with a large points spread either direction, a GOOD coach will cycle in other players to build their experience, confidence, and overall skill set.

There are countless opportunities for this to happen through out the season yet Freeburg does not. On the off chance that they do, the players meet failure because they have not gained the necessary skills in practice to succeed.

I know you are looking for answers and constructive conversation but the bottom line is our coaching staff is either lazy or ignorant. Or quite possibly both.

Ok I agree with shuffling players when the score is not close. Now I agree he doesnt take people out when there not playing well also. I am a bit biased because I played every min of every game and didnt have time to notcie that.

Now I disagree when you say a player doesnt get a chance to prove themselves. He may keep the same starters out there running plays and such but if a player thinks he should be out there with them, then all that player has to do is hop on scout team defense or offense( whatever they play) and start beating the starters. No matter how bad the coach is, this will get their attention.

So many times kids think they should start and if there not, they say heck with it and dont try on scout team or at all and just stand there all practice and complain.

I agree whole heartedly with "not concerned". The coaches are either LAZY or IGNORANT, no truer word have been spoken, and like I said before, eventually all the stars will align and Freeburg will have enough talent up there, that Mrs. Irwin could coach the team and win the conference.

past player, I have been to practices. He does not give players a chance. Look at the blue & white scrimmage. I saw pictures that the photographer took at the game. That proves my point.

When I played monday to thrusday you could earn a starting position. You new where you where on the depth chart. Bull dozers came up you challenged that player. You had half defense against half offense.

You show me anything at practice where you compete for anything.

You talk about the scout teams. All that is, run the plays, and put in the game plan for friday night.

The freshman do more than all of the other classes.
They looked good against the southmore's, why? chemistry, discipline,Wear their pads everyday, hit everyday. sounds like a good routine to me.

Can't wait for your response, good comments, keep it coming

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am a high school football offensive line coach in Virginia. I have coached for 32 years and I have been a part of all kinds of different type seasons. I have been thru winless seasons to winning a state championship last year. So I understand what you are saying and how you feel. It takes time to build a good program. Winning starts with parental and community support. Give this year a chance. I wish you good luck and a great season.

Big bill 7878, good comments, but I've experienced his style of coaching for 4 years. I'll give him a break.

There's always two sides of a coin. Watch, you will see what I.m talking about. Maybe this will be the year he listens to other peoples comments, it can't hurt, put me in my place. I can take it.

Well, coaches should always listen to concerns and be receptive. At the end of the day a coach must believe in his system, but always be open to new ways and ideas.

Win, Win, Ugly but a win.

He pulled players for the first time. He still needs to do this.

Ha can't afford to wait this next time.

Hurry up offense worked, but he ( the coach ) couldn't get the plays in fast enough, confusion.
It's like he doesn't rely on his coaching staff.

Offensive line, need to work on blitz.

Offensive line, no drive blocking what so ever.

I know its the first game, but we got allot of breaks. Allot to improve on

Good to hear they won. Dont really know how good Massac is. What kind of formations is freeburg running this year? offense and defense.

Very wise decision to play a team like massac county instead of Waterloo for your first game of the season. You have to start playing the weaker football programs, so the mental thought process can win out and help turn the program around. You take out Mater Dei, Waterloo and eventually remove Columbia from your schedule and whalla, a guaranteed winning season.

Larry, What does that say about the program if you go that far, and get lucky and win.

I know its the first game, and we won, but we didn't look that good considering they practiced all summer.

Theirs something missing with this program. We all see it, but its always about talent, are parents getting upset about their child not playing.

Take the coachs speech, I play the best player. He doesn't do that. Look at the product on the field, it speeks for it self.

Basic stuff thats taught at grade school level, seems to be missing at the high school level.

Can't wait for your response.

past player, It wasn't the best, but not the worst.

exciting game for the fans, but they play like they practice. Some would say typical first game, but you see this same stuff every year.

I don't know, its the same thing that cost you games.
Were on the goal line, don't get the play in, penelty. We got lucky to win.

Can't wait to hear your insight.
