It's never too early to talk about football, but you know it and I know it, there is no football in Freeburg. Just ask all the residents in town and they will tell you that football in Freeburg is dead, like non exsistant. If you have a boy that plays football or basketball and you want him to have a good high school experience, I suggest you move to Mascoutah, Waterloo or Columbia.

By the way concerned I know your son is one of the key players on this team and it being his senior year you want it to go so well for him. The sad truth to the matter is you won't be getting a good nights sleep after each and every Friday night this season. You will convince your husband and your self that you could have done a better job of play calling each game.

The coaching abilities and knowledge of the game will always win out over athletic abilities and sheer size of a football team. I have seen some of the best football players play the game all the way through four years of college and they know their position, game plan, strategies and all the rules, yet they could not teach or lead a football team to success. Sad but true and I believe this to be the case with F.C.H.S

Mr.Siemer you hit the nail right on the head. Freeburg hired a coach who never really had to prove himself, they thought that if he played for McKendree he would have to be a good coach.

Yes, it is absolutely deplorable how the school board and administration will not hold the football coaches and boys basketball coaches to a higher standard. Just ask them what's up with the coaches and they won't aknowledge you, even though you pay their wages with your real estate taxes.

I am really upset because my husband and I agree that our son would easily get a scholarship to play football in college, but as bad as the program is at Freeburg, he will not even get any recognition from any school.

I only hope that the coaching staff gives a fair chance for all players. Not being a local some times can really put a damper on a kids chances to earn legit playing time. We will give it a chance this year, but if we witness what every one is talking about here, I will move my family to Red Bud or Waterloo.

Dick,
Pack your bags now. This town is so steeped in good old boy allegiance, your son doesn't stand a chance. It doesn't matter if he's the four horsemen all rolled into one. He will ride the bench.

It's all these mouth-breathers have.....

Great comments, Everyone was right on the money. Sad, but true.

Its like everyone has blinders on. When you see the players practice it spills over on the field.

The players don't know how to win a position. Ask them they don.t understand. They will tell you who's going to play. Then you ask them do you go against the starters, reply no!!

Look at the seven on seven, drop the ball in pre-game, drop the ball when it counts. The coaches didn't say anything. The other coaches on the other teams, player pulled for some plays.

Teams blew us out last year, and the coaching staff didn't play any players last year. So how does he know who to play, this year. He gives a hell of a speech. Then you call him on it, and he doesn't know you.

How many player's are in the dog house already.

You got to love it. Go 2nd string. I'm rooting for you. From his speech winning isn't everything.

We will just have to sit back and watch what happens this year. There is a wealth of talent up there this year and we have decent size. I was wondering if the schedule is out yet and who is on this years schedule?

As an observer of Freeburg football, I feel that soccer has hurt football numbers, the conference itself has greatly improved since 2000 or so, the coaching staff has eased up on the schedule to give school a better chance at playoffs, and MOST IMPORTANTLY...nobody really cares where a kid is from.
You can question a coach's decision for sure, but most of the coaching staff isn't Freeburg born and bred. Stuart is from Central Illinois. Only Andy Skaer, Drew Gericke, and their young new coach went to FCHS.
Best of luck to the Midgets. I hope they stay injury free.

What has Freeburg ever done in football worth while? Success to most people in Freeburg means 3 or 4 wins a season, because of soccer takes away a lot of talented football players. Ha, doesn't the other schools have soccer as well? Come on give me a break. I bet the coaches speech was the same as it's been the last 10 years. This year were gonna uuumm, play real hard uuummm, start running some new plays uuummm, uuummm, we've noticed some uuumm, improvements in our, uuumm, the receivers are fast, uuumm, uuummm.

The question that should be asked, why does a player not want to play football.

Their is a action for everything.

Look at how many didn't come back to play this year.

It wasn't all about other sports. Need to look into it. You will be pissed, if you are a fan.

Plus it doesn't go along with his planned speech every year. Can't wait for that.

I won't pretend to know why kids do or don't come out. I'm not that close to the program.
Why aren't kids coming out? I'm intrigued.

The atmosphere of the program. The players do not know what to do to play. They quit, and go on with their life.

The same system every year. The players that don't start don't play. They do not get a chance. No competition. no depth chart, always in the dark, ask around.

Watch a practice, players standing around, same players doing the same thing. Receivers dropping balls. The list can go on and on.

Its really sad, They have enough talent to have different lines, don't have to have 2 way players. its just a mess.

Watch it, you will see what I'm getting at.
