The Parks department wants to build a new aquatic center at Zimmer park. The initial cost estimate was $6-7 million dollars. Until they can come up with the money, no pool.

Well this park is being built on an inherintance left by someone who passed and wanted it used to benefit the youth in Waterloo. It has been in debate for quit a while because the people named in the estate were being VERY greety and had different opinions on how the money would be spent. Long Story.......judge decided!!! The park is going up....definitely a good idea for a pool....that WOULD BE GREAT!!!!

judging by how far away the sign is from what's being put up, its gonna be pretty big, and there's the walking path across the street already. should be a nice park for a pool.

I don't think its really big enough for a pool. The new road and section of Remlok is going up soon. I am sure people of the subdivision would hate having a pool there too.

Anyone know what the posts are that are sticking up?

A while back, I heard that Belleville closed the city pool there. Ever since then, there's been a lot of concern where the Belleville kids could go swimming.

Think it would be too far for them to come to Waterloo to swim?

I don't think it would be much of a problem. Maybe the kids could be brought to Waterloo from Belleville by bus.

I do think that the Belleville kids should have to pay a higher admission price than Waterloo residents, though.

I believe Zimmer park is around 10 acres, so it is a pretty good sized park for a recreation/aquatic center. The plan was to have more than just a pool. They are planning a lazy river, water slide, maybe even a wave pool. The reality is without the 6-7 Million dollars, we are not getting a pool any time soon. Keep in mind, most public pools lose money every year, so unless Parks can come up with the money for the pool, and the maintenance, it will not happen. By the way, usually non-residents have to pay more than residents, to use a public pool.

You sound like you're well informed on the topic. I gotta ask you though, won't the residents of Remlok squeal like stuck pigs if the Parks Dept were to come up with even half of the items you're discussing?
