Just heard something and was wondering if anyone else has some info on this- Town Judge Prince has hired a new clerk that is not a resident or a taxpayer in the Town, was there no one qualified to do the job that lives in the Town or Village?? Is there a residence requirement for the Town or Village, does the Town Board allow this? Whats going on?

Not sure, but knowing the arrogant SOB as I do, anything is possible. Probably another of his "lady" friends. Look up "pompous" in the dictionary, you'll find his picture. Major, major attitude, thinks he's frigging God.

i don't have a copy of the paper. what is the situation they wrote about? keep in mind this is the observer, so whatever they wrote is probably 1/3 incorrect.

Yeah, Valentine's deputy who does not live in either the village or the town got the job. There are probably many qualified people who would have applied for the job IF IT HAD BEEN POSTED OR ADVERTISED. Your Town Board would have to do a little work then and interview & all that stuff & then give it to Valentine's deputy anyway. By the way, the deputy job got filled real fast too. No posting no interviews. Start going to meetings.

The Town of Pomfret, at this point in time, contains some of the sleaziest politicians in the area. Nobody seemed to care. Now, may a few Fredonia residents might wake up after the Town's blatant atttempt to take over the Village with the help of Sully. 3/4 of the residents of the Town of Pomfret reside in fredonia. What services do you get for your tax dollars? Answer...not much!! If you saw what the town spends annually for about 2700 people, you'd be shocked. Jim Oakes, for example, has no water duites, none at all, yest makes 10 grand more than Jack Bolin in Fredonia, who has responsibility for the water and sewer plants, and all of the lines and any problems that insue. How the hell does Jim Oakes make 80 grand a year for basically sending out plow trucks? How much do the town board members get? Did you know all town employess have lifetime health insurance? The Village workers don't. Check it out.

So there is a residence requirement for the Town. Judge Prince broke town law and will get away with it. Observer Today- A public hearing to change a local law pertaning to the required residence of the town of pomfret court clerk will be held March 23 at 6:30 pm. This is sad, there are many taxpayers that could use a job.The elected officials should support their own community. Shame on them.

It is the COURT CLERK position that has just been given to an out of town resident. Now the law is being changed to make the appointment legal. For TOWN CLERK we are stuck with no-sho Valentine the three day work day specialist. Your tax dollars at work. Remember it in Nov.

there are many, many more important things to worry about than a friggin secretary. we should be focused on regionalism and consolidation to save some tax $. does it really matter on what side of an imaginarey line that someone lives on?

while saving money is nice, i like having the quick response time from police and fire that village emergency services can provide. from what i've heard, if the town and village were to be consolidated, we'd end up with a part time town police department. i'd rather have a village department take 5 minutes to get to my house than a sheriffs or troopers car respond from all the way out in ripley when the part time department is not in service (most pt departments run from around early/mid evening to about 3 am).

Listen, here's the issue... the Town of Pomfret spends more money on the piddly duties it has, than Fredonia ever thought of. Divide Fredonia's total budget by the population of the village, than divide the budget for the Town of Pomfret by the population of the town, MINUS the Village of Fredonia (the village gets no services from the town, worth talking about), and see who spends the most per capita. You might be shocked, and you might decide to pay a little more attention to the Town of Pomfret than the Village of Fredonia. You have an issue with benefits for public employees? Well, guess who gets more in that area, town or village employees? It's the town. These are the under-the-radar slime balls many have been advocating to take over village duties!!!!! Wake up people!! Fredonia pays fully 3/4 of the towns taxes!!!Who should be taking over whom?
