What shop has the easiest standards for passing car inspections in the area? I need to put a ton of money into the car and cannot afford to do it all at once or buy a new one

Don't exist anymore. It's all computerized and they can't pull anything like just slapping a sticker on it for you.

Not if your check engine light is on...Computer will not pass it, Ellman's make sure your light is not on, nor has it been on before they even bring it in.

Usually getting the light off is the expensive and frustrating part of passing the emissions test. Maybe it is just a simple or minor cause for light to be on. Good Luck with that, keep us posted.

Emissions test? This isnt NYC, emissions are a visual inspection here. Besides the safety part of the NYS inpsection, the inspector should be looking to see if the emission parts are still there and they plug the scanner in and either passes or fails. The safety portion is still visual and some places are more particular than others at making sure your car is safe and road worthy.

Hard to fudge a NYS inspection anymore.'96 and newer have to be "plugged in to Albany" if the Ck engine light is on or the codes have just been cleared and the vehical hasn't went though it's drive cycle it won't pass no mater who the inspector or shop is, period.. The safety part of the inspection is still subject to the discretion of the inspector. Most shops want to see a safe vehical on the road and they don't want to take a chance with an illegal inspection, maybe to face loosing their license, a big$ fine, and a possiable lawsuit if there was an accident after the inspection. Fix what needs to be fixed on your car and get a real inspection. I know money is tight but safety is best for everyone.

Good for you buddy on getting your inspection, but I wouldn't brag about it on-line that someone does an illegal inspection for you and and charges you more then the state say is the maximum. They might not be in bussiness much longer the way you are advertising for them. I'm like everyone else, like to save money and cut corners but just stating the facts, like it or not.

Yes and no,still some ways around it, emissions are tough to get around it, yes there are ways but it's closing fast. Why I say all this to this post, I have been an inspector for 30 years, I am very lenient and don't try to make money from people like me just trying to get by. But I won't pass something that someone might get hurt or killed in, that was suppose to be the idea behind having a yearly inspection. It's all about money now and the emissions part IS BS.
That's all I got to say on this subject.

He's a freaking liar trying to make trouble for a good shop. Probably a rival shop. They have to hook the car up to the computer to inspect it. There's no way around it these days.
