Lets get a lot of support for FHS tonight as they host Southwestern for a sectional playoff game, the winner plays at the Ralph next Friday for the championship, get out and root the Billies on, should be a good game. 7:30pm at Dunkirk's new turf field. Be great to see a big crowd there supporting these kids. They are the only HS football team left in Northern Chautauqua County that is still in sectional play. Rain, shine or snow, get out and support the team if you can People from all over are welcome.

Thinking of braving the cold and heading over. Good luck to you Fredonia. It's Dunkirk's pleasure to host your victory!

Next year kids! Too bad you let that big lead go! But I think far too many took Southwestern way too lightly, including the coach.

Secondly, Fredonia should have taken advantage of playing them on their own muddy grass field. Southwestern is used to playing on this exact same turf field at their own facility, so naturally they felt at home and confident. That was a big strategic consideration that Fredonia overlooked. Back in the 70's when some of the professional stadiums we converting to grass to turf fields, it was always considered a strategic disadvantage when teams that were used to playing on grass had to play a home team on turf and vice versa. The bookies would always factor this in to their spreads as well as the game analysts in predictions. How soon we forget the lessons of history.

WE did ourself in, as bad as we played, we still should have won, their star player is so revered that he could do no wrong, he committed many penalties, the officials turned a blind eye, he grabbed one of our defenders in the end zone and shoved him out of the way so he could catch a touchdown, he did that twice--no call, he grabbed our fast receiver on a pass rout, stopped him in mid stride 25 yards down field--no call. Their running backs left before the ball was snapped on every play--no call, our kids twitched we got flagged, we got called 5 penalties in a row when we were at their 20 yard line, we also had a touchdown called back, our kid caught it, as he came up he threw the ball down, so they called it as an incomplete catch. It was pre-ordained that Southwestern was going to win. Its a shame that the officiating was one sided, but cant change the outcome, I don't normally bitch about the officials because they miss calls on both sides. my kid said that they tackled by facemask on every other play, but what can u do. I feel bad for our kids, to loose because they had to overcome poor officiating, but we were caught at every little thing that we did. and Southwestern could do no wrong, their star player could have commit murder and gotten away with t.

In the South they call that kind of officiating "home town cookin". But again that is more the reason why Fredonia should have put these guys away on their own home field. Southwestern would have slipslided away, instead of Fredonia letting a lead slide away on a no slip field. Every home field has it's own distinct advantages. Why not use them. Bad strategic decision Fredonia.

The refs didn't score 17 unanswered points. Don't get cheap here. A better team won the game, and that's that! Southwestern has been tough for quite a few years and had only lost 1 game all year to Fredonia's none, and that was to Salamanca, another tough team. Blaming the ref's is so typical. The kids had a good season, played well, they just didn't play well enough for basically one quarter of one football game against a very good team.

When Jake Swan can physically push two defenders away from himself so he is wide open in the end zone and catch a touchdown, come on, no wonder everyone considers him so good, he can do what he wants on the field and not get called for it, that was blatant offensive interference, Swan did this twice. He also held our receivers while he played defense--no call. Swan is great with the officials being on love with him. They grab Weston Ley on a break away so he cant catch the deep pass- another no call. Their backs left before the ball was snapped on 80% of the plays---no call. My kids facemask was grabbed 4 times--no call. FHS gets the ball at the 20 in ot, 5 straight penalties!!!. SW committed many penalties--no calls. The Fredonia kids twitch penalty. This game was already pre-determined. The gardner catch in the endzone was a TD, after he came up from his roll he let the ball go-ruled incomplete. The Swan kid does what he wants and can get away with it. There were quite a few Dunkirk fans at the game that saw all the same things I just mentioned. Its tough to get penalty after penalty and come back, when the other team can go on and do what ever they want without fear of a call. Were SW to actually play in an honest game, it would have been differentl that being said, Fredonia still was and is the better team, THEY LET IT SLIP AWAY, BUT, the officiating giving every break to SW did make it tougher. To loose fair and square is one thing. To have blind officiating for one team is another. Swans touchdown should have been nullified and Gardners should have counted. See how a no call; mand a bad call can make a difference 14 point one there!

You may be one hundred percent correct on the biased officiating. But unless the league explicitly prevented Fredonia from playing that game on their home field they made a huge strategic error. The psychology of what caused the biased officiating was all made more possible without the home crowd atmosphere on their own home field. More so, Southwestern is used to playing on that exact same turf field throughout the season. They practice on it everyday. Fredonia is used to playing on grass. Why no one took this into consideration when foregoing their own home field advantage is beyond me. Chalk it up to overconfidence with the powers to be.

I agree on that we should have played in the mud bowl. I for one can take a loss on a fair playing field, but it was laughable, especially when the Gardner kid caught the touchdown, did a summersault, came up and then dropped the ball, because the play was over and they rule it a no-catch, Swan kid pushing defenders away so he can be wide open to make catches, the Ley kid held every time he went down field. All those penalties in over time to push Fredonia back to the 50 to take them out of scoring., it was a joke. W was wanted back into the championship, and that's it. Cleve/Hill will destroy them. Its bad when people from other communities that watched the game had the same comments that I have stated. But you are correct It should have been at the Orange Bowl. I am not impressed with Jake Swan, I see now how he does what he does on the field, he has freedom to do what ever without fear of reprisal.

I am an objective Fredonia fan. I watched the game on TV. Southwestern got no more calls their way than Fredonia did. Southwestern made at least one of the 4th downs (if not both) that the refs gave the ball back to Fredonia on. One Fredonia interference call was totally missed on a long incomplete Southwestern pass. Bad calls went both ways. Neither the field nor the officiating cost Fredonia the game. What did cost them the game was that Fredonia got blown off both the offensive and defensive lines during the entire second half, especially in overtime. Even Ball said that after the game.

For someone who was not impressed by Jake Swan, you sure can't seem to stop writing about him. Southwestern has a quality program. Good luck to them.

It's high school football, not life or death. The kids had a good season. Stop crying and move on.

Game over, we should have won, but did not happen, the better team did not win, and that does happen in sports. Next year we will have another good team, We made a lot of mistakes in the game, and gave it to them. They will have a hard time against Cleve/Hill. Were the officials bad, you bet they were, but its part of the game and we need to overcome it and did not. I think our kids were looking ahead and it was also a bad decision to play on turf where SW is experienced at (thanks to DHS though for the use, they were great hosts) We should have been at the Orange Bowl as home team with the advantage being the high seed would give us. I do think the Swan kid is overrated he was afforded special privileges where he could do what he wanted and the officials ignored it. But we as the better team should have been able to step up and we did not in the end. Cant change it, wait until next year. For those that do not know, Southwestern and their coach have a history of cheating, last year one of our kids left their wrist band with all the plays in it at Alleg/limestone, they found it and gave it to Southwestern. Now the SW coach, if he was any kind of a man would have refused it, but he did not and used it in the first game against FHS last year. FHS knew something was up and changed the wrist cards at half time, which shut SW down in second half. Then we know what happened at the Ralph. A complaint was filed with section VI against Alleg/limestine ans SW, but the alleg/Limestone superintendent was in charge of the section complaint committee last year. The complaint went nowhere. Thats what you get with Southwestern and their coach. So now everyone that cares to know knows. The high and mighty Southwestern is not so high and mighty. Never liked cheaters.

This is not sour grapes, this is an act that did happen, which was last year, just proves the history and integrity of this coach. Next year we will shine again. Our kids went undefeated in league play and won the division, that is a great feat in itself. Something to be proud of.
