Fantauzzi Funeral Home 82 E Main St, Fredonia, NY 14063
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 The most unprofessional funeral director ever!- Sep 10, 2008
I have had two experiences with Mr. Fantauzzi. Both made me regard him as the most unprofessional funeral director ever.

Unprofessional examples from my personal experiences:

1. Yelling at the deceased family member over the phone when late for an appointment.
2. Having a family member sit on the floor during a meeting.
3. Doing business in his bathrobe.
4. Jokingly measuring the width of an alive elderly person during a viewing.
5. Yelling at the top of his lungs for everyone to be quiet when he wanted attention during a viewing.
6. Making a speech to immediate family before the funeral procession that was 90% about himself and mostly a sales pitch for future business.
7. Making the money sign with his hand to a grieving family member in a church.
8. Badmouthing people who have chosen another funeral director while arranging a current funeral with a family.
9. Unable to obtain local police escort due to poor relationship with local police.
10. Overall unprofessional behavior that seems to disregard the solemness of the event.

From my experience, people use Mr. Fantauzzi for one of two reasons:
1. The are Italian and live in the small town with a high Italian population.
2. They like his work preparing the deceased for their viewing.

"Yelling at the deceased family member"? Well, that person must've said something out of line!!

I think you meant yelling at a member of the deceased's family. The deceased family member really couldn't care less .

Seriously though, I agree with the theme of this post. He is very unprofessional in so many ways.

I agree I was outside at the Mckinnon funeral waiting to go inside and Mr. Fantuzzi came outside and looked at the line and stated I should have put a portable bar out here I could be rich with all these people. Very tacky we were not there to see him we were there to offer our support to the family.

I'm sure Mike was just joking but it was at the wrong time. He can be on the arrogant side at times but deep down inside he does have feelings and cares about people. Just have too let it go and not let it bother anyone just remember we all have god on our sides and we will get over things

Mmm I would think that a funeral director would know enough about the time and place for joking. Joking and lightheartedness can be a great tool in comforting the bereaved. He is just simply insincere, lacking in compassion and maybe worst of all, not funny only obnoxious.

Firehawk dan, I dont think people would make these accusation if the where not true. And welcome to the internet. You can say and do whatever the hell you like. A funeral director should have a dignified attitude and not be offensive in the manner he did, if he did at all.

Yeah, pay the man so he can buy a new bathrobe to make funeral arrangements in. Maybe a silk black one.

He should be paid. I know what your saying. My family has used him a few times. If you get past the man, he really does do nice work. He once try to measure my friends mom for a box as well..I think he was just making a point of telling her to quit smoking. And she did! Sure, it's strange and maybe not the right time, but, you get what you pay for!

Never judge a book by its cover and don't judge Mike Fantauzzi by his mouth. He really does care about the families who come to him and has been "stiffed" by more than a few when it comes to paying the funeral bill. As the obituary writer for the OBSERVER,I have worked with him for 15 years. Sure, he's rough around the edges but he certainly has handled some high profile funerals and handled them well. Both funeral homes he owns are gorgeous and well maintained. And the rumors about him and the hairdresser Henry were started by an imbecile and are totally false. Mike was previously married for about 15 years and had a son who died as a teenager. So, imbecile, stick your false accusations where the sun don't shine.
As for someone suggesting to Mike he use BURGETT to initiate a lawsuit, let me say this: I went to Dalton Burgett when I was attacked by two pitbulls. I insisted on reading his paperwork before he filed it with the courts and it's a good thing I did. It said the lawsuit stemmed from injuries I received in a car accident. My response to Burgett was, "Gee, I didn't know pitbulls could drive!"

Mike really isnt abad guy just says things he shouldnt and i knwo family members that he took care of and was very compasionate to the family. He does have a great funeral home that he puts his hard work money into and is always clean and presentable. People do have the right to voice thei ropinion in life u cant take that away from anyone thats one of our freedoms. Lets just stick to the truth on here and maybe start a topic on positive situations.

You must be the one who severly screwed up more than one close family member's obituary. I guess I also know why you used the word judge in your comment, because he's had to appear in front of them before. People should know that there are complaints filed against him at the Bureau of Funeral Directing located in Troy, N.Y. Pitbulls can't drive and you can't write. See there, two bitches that can't do either of the things mentioned in your post. He probably screwed up his own son's funeral too, if that's even true. The reason both his "funeral homes", and I use the term very loosely, seem to appear well-maintained, is that he has nothing else to do but mow his lawn and water his flowers(during a village wide water ban) because he's lost his liscense on several different occasions and can't "legally" drive during those times. His funeral homes don't do that much business anyway. He seems to have lots of time to waste.
