Since the election is over, I guess it is time to clear up a few things. First of all, Walker did not reduce the overtime in the jail. Dan and Kirk found a statute that let them change the way the Corrections Officers were paid. Instead of them working 84 hrs. every two weeks and getting 4 hrs. of overime every payday, there is a statute that law enforcement has to work 84.5-85.5 hrs. every two weeks before they can get overtime. walker did not implement the time clock system. The jail already had a card swipe system that had quit working. the fingerprint scanner system that they use now still does not work on everyone. The Sheriff Office was not over budget last year like Walker claimed. The LEC had major sewage problems and the Commissioners told the Sheriff that if he would pay for it out of his budget, he would be reimbursed, He never got reimbursed until the very end of the year after Walker made it look like they was over budget and out of money. There was a question going around about Walker getting some guardrails off of 47 hwy during the new construction. I checked on that with the state and it does appear that he might have come by it honestly, except that he used county labor on county time to take the guardrails down. He also used his "authority" as a Commissioner to make Westar Energy relocate 8 utility poles over about 18 inches at a cost of $6000 a pole. Who do you think had to cover that cost, Westar customers of course. If you think back about Walkers ads, he always mentioned that he had done this and done that. Where were the other 2 Commissioners while he was doing all of this? I was also told that he would relocate whatever grader operator that he thought was the best to his area to work. I have also been told that he calls Dave Parker almost every morning to give him orders on what he needs to work on and where. Is Parker not capable enough to run the R/B Dept. on his own without daily guidance from Walker??

Good job Jerry you are a man who knows what he is talking about! People who read this have no clue how the Commissioners have screwed this county for there own gain! Russ and his band of thugs are no better then Obama and his thugs. Oh you forgot to add in how Russ Walkers mouth help lose 700k contract between Wilson county and Wyndotte to bad we cant post the letter from Sheriff Don Ash of Wyndotte county about Russ trying to strong arm Wyndotte for more inmates. Im sure you still have that letter Jerry ask the news paper to print it so all can see Russ for who he is.

The news paper is in on the meeting unless they go into executive session! Minutes are recoreded as to what the meeting contained. Its not about money being skimmed as much as keeping the good old boys club alive and favors exchanging hands. These are deals Walker and Richardson make on the street with people to try and keep business out of wilson county. Farmers lobby Walker and Business owners lobby Richardson to keep this county from growing. You have to have deep pockets to start a business here in wilson county "OR" lived here your whole life and know the right people. Commissioners want control of everything.

First of all, let me say that I do not necessarily agree that the best man won. It is because the County, at least Dist. 2 is still too red(republican) and a lot of people, especially elderly people believe in voting straight party lines no matter what. The reason I ran as a Democrat is to give people a choice. I also knew at the time that both Walker and Varner were better known in the Dist. and that I would not have stood a chance running in the primarys. During my campaign, I had several people turn me down when I asked if I could put a sign up. I was told that basically they were afraid of repercussions by Walker. I had many people tell me that he is just a bully and very aggressive in the way he treats people. That is why is has no dealings with the Sheriffs office anymore. he claims that he was a certified part-time Deputy for 10 years. Ask him why he isnt anymore. Ask him if it had anything to do with the way he treated people when he pulled them over. He didnt quit being a Deputy voluntarily, he was pulled. On another note, does anyone know how many times the County has been sued in the past few years? NO? The reason is that the County Commissinoners go into Executive Session to discuss these matters and anything that is discussed in Executive Session does not have to be made public. They do not have to put it in the paper. Therefore, they could have several lawsuits going on and the general public will have no clue what is happening.as far as the letter from Wyandotte County goes, yes, I do have a copy and so does the Citizen. The following is from the Sheriff of Wyandotte County, Sheriff Donald Ash. One of the reasons listed for pulling the inmates from Wilson County is there were " a few medical and some significant transportation issues experienced with Wilson County" And I quote word for word from the letter dated March 24, 2011." In addition, our Jail Administrator, Mr. Jeffery Fewell received a call from Wilson County Commission Chairman, Mr. Russ Walker just prior to our pullout. Walker was questioning why the significant decline in the number of Wyandotte County inmates being housed at Wilson. Although respectful, Fewell perceived that Walker was engaged in some arm twisting to gain more inmates. It was at this point that Fewell told Walker that he beleived the medical and transportation issues to be too significant for us to continue farming inmates out to Wilson. We appreciate the assistance and professionalism that was extended to us from representatives of the Wilson County Sheriff's Office, and I appreciate your and Captain Kirk Hartnett's personal phone follow up with me." The Commissioners have no business or legal right to go behind the Sheriff's back and make these kind of phone calls. The Commissioners have no say so in how an office is run by an elected official until they run of of budget money. What Walker done was borderline illegal. and what is he doing being Chairman two years in a row? It was my understanding that the Chairman position is to alternate every year.

The jail is under direct control of the county commission. Expenses have to be paid out of the general fund if jail is over budget. By law the county commission can hire a jail keeper. The sheriff is paid extra to administer the jail. All of this is covered by state law. You might want to look it up. Walker did nothing illegal. In fact, he was doing his job.

Well if Walker wants to be in control of the jail, maybe Kirk should lay everyone off in the jail effective immediately and let Walker have at it. Then maybe he would see how poorly paid the Corrections Officers are for everything they have to deal with. Let him and the other Commissioners go back in there and try to run it.

I have also heard many of these same things. Very disappointing that these officials are in office for the benefit of themselves, instead of the benfit of the citizens of this county. Maybe these things are not illegal, but they are definitely not ethically or morally correct!

You are correct! Jerry had a first hand look as to how the commissioners handled employees and treated the Sheriffs office as a whole. Russ Walker, Jim Richardson and Chris Marple should be ashamed of how they have treated county employees. Not much is known to the public on just how bad these people are but a select few know the truth. The Citizen news paper is on the wrong side of the people here in Fredonia and prints a one sided version from the commissioners meetings.

The sheriffs dept. was NOT over budget. The commissioners had planned on XXX amount of dollars coming from Wyandotte county. When Russ Walker pissed them off and they left so did the money that was budgeted. Kris Marple only kisses their ass because they can fire him. No sheriffs dept can know how much money they will need for the year. Its only a guess. If the sheriff says I think it will take 1 million dollars this year and they only them $600,000 It's kind of hard to run a "business" as Walker would call it.

I did send a letter to the Editor of the Citizen along with a copy of the letter from Wyandotte County Sheriff early this week. We will just have to wait and see if and or when the Citizen prints any of it.
