What would it be? I would like to see the mines open back up. I really think the county should push to get people to come here and start mining again. This place would boom like you never seen.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $14 million contract to Environmental Quality Management Inc. of Cincinnati to clean up lead-contaminated soils at 1,000 residential properties in Madison County in southeast Missouri.
The contract is supported by more than $9.8 million in federal stimulus money.
The Madison County mines site is located in southeast Missouri near Fredericktown in the Old Lead Belt where heavy metal mining has occurred since the early 1700s.
Environmental Quality Management, headquartered in Forest Park, is an environmental consulting, engineering, remediation and construction management firm.

I would like to see a spirit of independence, pride, and self reliance that existed here in this county in the late 40s rather than the large welfare rolls, drug users/sellers and the claimed disabilty that exists now.
The return of the mines would help getting the unemployment down and possibly the welfare rolls. I know of one individual who gets disability who sells his pain killers that he gets because of his bad back. This individual was turned in, but nothing resulted from his illegal drug sale. It seems there is a feeling that one is no longer responsible for themselves. Mayhbe this county has become a big pasture for sheep who depend on the master for their safekeeping.
Now before the flames, I am not against helping out those who truly can't help themselves. Just hoping for a more "gung-ho" attitude within the people.

If a major bussiness were to establish itself in this town. This town would transform into something the towns people would not be ready for and, would not welcome. The generated revenue from such a thing would be a major boost. Unfortunately , it would multiply all the good and, bad things that already exist in this town. It doesnt take alot of thought to figure that one out. This scenario has already presented itself in the past and, has always been blocked for that very reason. I figured i would try and, refresh the threads on here with a renewed topic. Its getting kinda boring on here !

The county could certainly use a fresh bagel (like Panerra or St. Louis Bread Co) franchise, and a Krispy Kreme doughnut outlet.

Something could be done with the old walmart building as well. With a poor economy that probably wont be happening any time soon.

So, the rumor about Trimfoot purchasing the old Walmart building is just that, a rumor? Why am I not surprised?!

I think "The Factory" idea that Farmington came up with was a great plan. Restaurant, Photo Studio, Hair Salon, Weight Watchers, Ministerial Alliance, Bocce, etcetera. An aquaintance utilizes the indoor walking path when there is extreme weather and I've seen many others use it because it is a controlled enviroment . Wonder if the thought has crossed the powers that be to give that a shot with Brown Shoe?
