Blood of the Covenant

Read Exodus 22:1 through 24:18
Jane was cleaning out the attic of her parents’ home. Looking through boxes, she found a friendship agreement she had made with her sister Jill when they were kids, promising to be “the bestest friends forever.” She smiled as she thought about how they had pricked their fingers so they could sign the agreement in blood. It must have worked, she mused, we are still best friends even after all these years.
Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said,“This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words”(Exodus 24:8).
God made a covenant with the Israelites. The blood used to confirm the covenant represented cleansing and forgiveness, making reconciliation between God and the Israelites possible.
Jesus paid the ultimate price for reconciliation to establish the new covenant with His blood. As Christians, we can rejoice in the cleansing from sin we have through the blood of Christ that brings us into covenant relationship with God.
Challenge for Today: Live like a blood-bought child of God.
