Read 2 Chronicles 22:1–12

David had been promised an eternal kingdom, and now that promise was being sorely tested. Athaliah began killing the rest of the royal descendants after her own son, a descendant of David, was killed. She intended to destroy any hope of an eternal dynasty for David’s lineage. However, God’s plan continued through another person’s obedience.

Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the royal princes who were about to be murdered and put him and his nurse in a bedroom.... She hid the child from Athaliah so she could not kill him (2Chronicles22:11).

Life’s circumstances can sometimes cause us to feel that God has forgotten His promises to us. We may see only despair and hopelessness around us. In these challenging times we, like the nation of Judah, can remember that God never forgets His promises. When we look beyond our circumstances, we can see God’s presence with us.

Thought for Today: We must remember that God keeps His promises to us.
