Now maybe VDOT will show some interest on that intersection. I can count numerous times that the guardrail and stop sign have been knocked down. Hopefully this tragic incident will put some solid ideas on how to ensure this does not happen again.

Sorry there was a loss of life. Traffic lights, stop signs, yeild signs, people need to pay attention to what they are doing.

People are in to much of a hurry. Talking on their phones, texting, speeding, loud music playing that they can't hear warning (ie horns, train).

As many others I have no idea as to what happen but even with a traffic light present it would have not prevented this from happening. A stop sign did not help.

I too am sorry for this loss as it could have beenprevented by having a traffic light there. How many other lives/families will suffer loss, until a light is put there. People coming off of 218 don't heed the sign,it becomes a free for all. I have spoken with so many people who say cars pull out right in front of them, for many resons but mostly of impatience or to not be behind someone. If people read their drivers ed book, they ARE to stop for on coming cars. The next life they pull out in front of could be theirs or a family with children, try living with that for the rest of your life.

Why not just close it off to everyone but local traffic. It is a short cut for convenience and nothing more.

V-Dot will only do a study after lives have been lost. This is what is sad,2 people have to die before V-Dot will get up off their a__ and then do a study to see if the intersection is a hazard. V-Dot why don't you ask the families of all involved .

I am sorry for all families involved, but the lack of driving experience - "failed to yield the right-of-way" seems to suggest this accident perhaps would of happened with a traffic light too...

Hello I'm Paul Lee's granddaughter Marissa and Jodi was soon to be my family...
Jodi stopped at that stop sign as she ALWAYS did, BUT you have to inch out to see past those trees and bushes that are obstructing the view, NOT even a day later that my grandfather has past away my husband and I almost got into an accident in the very same spot!!!
There needs to be a traffic light there and my family has a petition that we are having signed.
I appreciate all the condolences, we are very devastated and going on one day at a time...

Marissa, I would love to sign your petition!! Let me know where to go and sign it. I'm sure I could get other people to sign it as well. I agree with you that something has to be done and I admire the fact that at least you are trying. I will help in any way I can.

When the VDOT representative came to a council meeting recently to ask each council member our individual opinion on a traffic light at the intersection near Hall's, I felt personally a stop light was not needed at the Hall's intersection. At that time I mentioned that the one location I felt needed attention was the intersection of 205 and 218 near Gitie's, where there had been numerous accidents, and many near accidents. That the angle of the road entering Rt. 205 with the addition of Dalhgren traffic and lack of a clear line of sight made it a very dangerous location. Don't know if a light is needed or if re-cutting (angle) road would be sufficient, but definitely needs something. Should be studied, and I will sign your petition for a study.

Why Would CB Coucil have anything to say about a traffic light in the county?? Why would VDOT even ask the town about it??

Colonial Beach is in the County of Westmoreland, and close to the town. Maybe that is why!!!
